Job Description

What we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller who will be responsible for internal accounting controls internal audit functions coordinating accuracy and scalability of the Loan Management System financial planning and analysis in addition to investor reporting across various stakeholders.


What does the job involve

  • Financial reporting & Reviews
    • Lead the Internal audit team across members from the engineering data and accounting team; with a biweekly report on loan book data sent to the CEO CFO and COO
    • Lead the Month End Period closing process ensuring management accounts close accurately and on time by 5th of each month
    • Consolidating monthly financial reporting for each country
    • Maintain financial accounts by ensuring monthend close activities including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement items for all countries per applicable IFRS standards
    • Collaborate with finance and data team for monthly investor and management reporting
    • Continue to improve the financial models on an ongoing basis
  • Lead and guide the accounting team
    • Managing team members monitoring performance versus agreed corporate targets and consistently providing feedback.
    • Provide strategy and direction on their tasks and ensure they are working smart and within standards
    • Responsible for coaching and developing the finance team
    • Weekly 1:1 meetings with direct reports and formal quarterly performance reviews to ensure accounting team is fully motivated and growing
    • Fostering a culture of excellence knowledge sharing and continuous improvement at all levels within the Finance team
    • Be the interface between various departments in ensuring any accounting issues are resolved on time
  • Financial Audit
    • Lead implementation of all management notes sent from the financial auditors
    • Liaise with external auditors to facilitate quarterly and annual audits and implementation of all their recommendations in our books
    • Collaborate with the finance teams to prepare for yearend audits ensuring all necessary documentation and records are in order.
  • Policy control & Compliance
    • Final review of statutory standalone and consolidated Group financial statements under IFRS accounting standards.
    • Perform analysis and technical accounting research and trend analysis
    • Ensuring appropriate documentation of accounting treatment of complex and judgmental transactions including analysis relevant literature and conclusion.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory accounting and reporting requirements
    • Continuous maintenance and improvement of templates and standard operating procedures
    • Implementation of transfer policy and intercountry related policies
  • Budgeting & Cash flow management
    • Prepare monthly Cost analysis and work with leads to ensure cost effectiveness across departments
    • Monitor and update budgets monthly and advice the management on cost control measures
    • Forecast monthly and quarterly cash requirements for all business lines and prepare periodic budgets for the different departments
    • Monitor cash flow accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure optimal financial health


Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience Finance Controller at a Series A lending Fintech with minimum 3 years at a growthstage startup or 7 years at a Tier 1/Tier 2 financial audit firm
  • Track record of leadership capabilities with strong problemsolving skills high stakes communication skills and managing young and multicultural teams.
  • Lateral experiences within a corporate finance investments & transactions or Fintech comparable role will be favored.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics
  • Expertlevel Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of IFRS9 standards
  • Strong understanding of local taxation in Kenya and Uganda and prior experience dealing with KRA audits and requests
