Position Title: Commissioner

Reporting to the Board of Health the Commissioner provides the dynamic leadership and vision necessary to assure effective and strategic management of the Department of 170 employees. If the candidate is a medical doctor they will also serve as the chief medical health provider. The Commissioner is responsible for overseeing the budget responsibilities for policymaking; compliance; and outreach and advocacy to government industry and other community partners
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides a broad vision and executive leadership for policy planning initiatives coordination and compliance. Promotes the highest standards of excellence.
- Works with community partners to enhance wellness accessibility and collaboration.
- Promotes a culture of scientific integrity and compliance.
- Communicates to the general public and local and state decision makers to advance public health efforts to enhance the quality of life regionally.
- Builds upon current institutional strengths leads in identifying new and innovative opportunities and advances the mission of and reputation of LFCHD locally and statewide.
- Develops and promotes the training and professional development for the Department as well as longterm succession plans.
- Leads and supports an environment of diversity equity and inclusion at all levels of the Department.
- Advises the Board on long range planning and development of administrative programs organizations and structures that support public service missions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- For medical doctors an active medical license that can be transferred to Kentucky.
- For nonphysicians a masters degree
- One year of supervisory experience.
- 5 years of experience in public health or related field
