Job Description

This position will provide engineering support to the Navy PMA-201 Bomb Rack development/integration team as they execute an extensive Engineering Change Proposal to adapt existing Air Force Bomb Rack Unit (BRU) to Navy standards including changes to environmental, strength, modularity, supportability, and software requirements. You will support the planning, coordination, and assist in the resolution of major engineering challenges associated with the development, integration, and qualification of a Navy variant of the Air Forces BRU-61B/A and its integration with SDB II for F/A-18E/F, F-35B and F-35C. Prior knowledge of munitions development, NAVAIR flight clearance and systems engineering processes is preferred.



  • Demonstrate systems engineering and/or technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas: DoD 5000 Series Acquisition processes and documentation, munitions development, airborne stores suspension and release mechanisms, Universal Armament Interface requirements, software certification, DoD airworthiness certification and support process.

  • Responsible to the Lead Engineer for maintaining systems engineering integrity and discipline across the spectrum of technical activities.

  • Interact with system-of-system Subject Matter Expert (SME) counterparts, including structures, strength, loads, and aircraft integration, to ensure a complete fielding solution is technically viable and on schedule.

  • Oversee and evaluate technical development, review, and approval of Engineering Change Proposals.

  • Perform or support material solution analysis, technology, engineering, and manufacturing development, production and deployment, and operation and support.

  • Apply and execute the following systems engineering technical and technical management processes: requirements definition and analysis, architecture design, implementation, system integration, verification and validation, technology transition, decision analysis, technical planning, technical assessment, requirements management, risk management, configuration management, technical data management, and interface management.

  • Plan and execute technical reviews and assessments according to entrance/exit criteria (e.g., System Requirements Review, design reviews, requirements compliance assessment).

  • Review, develop, or edit program or technical documents (e.g., Systems Engineering Plan, Risk Management Plan).

  • Participate in Corrective Action Boards, Material Review Boards, Failure Review Boards, Process Failure Modes, and Criticality Analysis.

  • Support Program Management Reviews, Integrated Baseline Reviews, and other product reviews as required.

  • Perform reviews, studies, audits, evaluations, and analyses and provide technical recommendations.

  • Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in superior product in terms of quality and/or cost.

  • Review and analyze proposals or modifications for technical feasibility, compatibility, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Analyze operational requirements and functional interactions within the system and with other systems, considering life cycle costs, logistics supportability, human factors, etc., to determine if the basic building blocks of the system are defined in sufficient detail to support a development program effort.

  • Plan and develop documentation and briefings in support of acquisition milestone events and the development of acquisition strategies. Assure program meets statutory and regulatory guidance.

  • Perform tasks for program communication and reporting, including status updates and activity reports.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for weapon system operations.

  • Maintains situational awareness of operational problems/issues affecting SDB II or BRU-61 operations.

  • Provides test planning support for all integration and test activities.

  • Maintains situational awareness of operational problems/issues affecting SDB II or BRU-61 employment.

  • Interface and provide contract support to include drafting of contracts documents (e.g., SOWs CDRLs, DD254s).

  • Track current testing contracts status and program funding.

  • Attend and support Engineering Technical Interchanges with Aircraft and Weapon Program Offices and vendors.

  • Attend and support Test Planning and Test events with Weapon and BRU vendors, Aircraft and Weapon Program Offices and vendors.


Requirements

  • Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Systems Engineering or related field plus 4-8 years of experience.

  • Ability to obtain Secret security clearance within 6-9 months.

  • Experience with development, integration, testing, and deployment of Armament Systems and their associated weapon interoperability, interfaces, and verification and test assessment requirements.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Travel is required (~25% per month).

  • Ability to rent/operate rental cars while on travel.

  • Ability to work flexible and varied hours.

  • Works well in a team environment, is a self-starter and is result oriented.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis.

  • Experience with Air Force or Naval Air Systems Command flight clearance policy for air vehicles and aircraft systems.

  • Experience with the Air Force or Naval Air Systems Command systems engineering technical review process.

  • Experience with the USN Developmental and Operational test and evaluation squadrons and associated test processes.

  • Proficiency in understanding and assessment of 3D CAD models.

  • Understanding of MIL-STD-1760, 1553, and UAI standards and protocols.

  • Responsible for assisting with data analysis on SDB II & BRU-61 activities.

  • Collects and archives all mission data for each DT missions (USAF and USN).

  • Assists Government Subject Matter Expert (SME) with current and historical data analysis.

  • Assists SME with system performance analysis for all platform inquiries.
