Search Engineer

We are on the lookout for a Search Engineer to join Delivery Hero on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences.

Search is a crucial part of Delivery Heros mission to always deliver an amazing experience fast easy and to your door. Search teams are responsible for powering search experience in more than 60 countries and 35 languages enabling 80M searches each day across 4 continents. Our data informed culture helps us continuously improve and provide a high quality search experience to our diverse set of users.

As an Engineer you will be focused on improving the search experience for our users. You will be obsessed with making search results relevant so that users are able to find their favourite cuisine and items easily and faster. 

Some problems we are working on in the search domain: 

• How do we improve the ranking of search results

• What is the intent of the users search query

• How do we reduce the zero result rate for our users search queries

• How to make search results and search suggestions relevant to our users

• and many more such questions...  

Responsibilities: 

• Make the search experience frictionless for our users

• Design and implement cuttingedge search applications which will transform the food and grocery delivery industry

• Collaborate with engineers data scientist analysts and product in a crossfunctional team to solve search problems

• Develop multivertical and multilanguage scalable and reliable search service used across more than 60 countries and 35 languages

• Build and maintain worldclass high traffic services and APIs in a team of experienced software engineers

• Practice modern software development methodologies such as continuous delivery TDD and scrum

As part of our Consumer Team youll enhance customer satisfaction and drive global growth and profitability through innovative projects.

Qualifications :

• B.S or M.S. degree in computer science information systems or other related fields

• Experience working with Elasticsearch/Solr/Lucene and has experience building scalable information retrieval systems 

• Good understanding of search relevance. Experience in improving search relevance using text and semantic matching algorithms and NLP techniques 

• Experience with building up lowlatency scalable software systems 

• Extensive knowledge and working experience with Java Frameworks

• Solid experience in the design and implementation of APIs and design patterns

• Development and coownership of applications used by millions of users 

• Curiosity creative outsidethebox problem solving abilities and an eye for details

• You build it you run it! mentality along with full ownership of the developed applications

• 3 years of experience
