Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Director is responsible for the complete oversight of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). The Director serves as liaison between staff and administrative personnel and works cohesively with Admin Director to develop standards and procedures for providing care and improving quality and efficiencies. They are responsible for promoting strong and effective working relationships with other departments within the facility.
Job Responsibilities
- Accurately identify real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow through and communication
- Actively participate in service departmental and hospital wide committees as assigned providing ongoing communication to those one represents
- Coach subordinates through providing feedback constructive critique of work facilitates individual development plan and documents their job performance
- Effectively communicate departmental organization and industry information to staff
- Facilitate evidence based employee engagement practices
- Effectively build strong relationships and networks to deliver upon organizational and department goals
- Participate in employee and patient rounding and identify and mentor potential future leaders
- Enforce standards of care for surgical services and develops processes to measure and ensure consistent compliance
- Develop implement and evaluate an ongoing surgical services program which assures quality patient care consistent with the Hospital mission
- Monitor compliance with regulatory accrediting and hospital policy environmental patient and personnel safety
- Oversee a PI program that consistently monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.
- Maintain responsibility for departments operational excellence by ensuring delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies procedures and professional standards
- Follow the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Blood borne and Airborne Pathogens
- Enforce safe procedural site and patient verification policy
- Monitor and respond to quality event reporting
- Support new program strategies and/or program enhancements which would expand patient services
- Develop prioritize and defend capital equipment requests
- Be responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organizations financial resources
Qualifications
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Bachelors Degree required
Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
Must have Director level experience overseeing SPD teams in an acute hospital setting I am not able to consider candidates coming from any other setting. Ideally Id like to know that they have overseen teams of similar size (2030 FTEs)
Interview process can take 24 weeks sometimes (especially if they do not live locally) and so I want to only consider candidates that are comfortable with this timeframe.
