Overview:
The Mainframe DB2 DBA plays a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing the performance of the organizations mainframe DB2 databases. This position is essential for ensuring the reliability security and efficiency of the mainframe database environment which is integral to the organizations data management and business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install configure and upgrade DB2 software on mainframe systems
- Design and implement database structures and data models
- Monitor and optimize the performance of DB2 databases
- Ensure data security and integrity through regular backups and recovery processes
- Collaborate with application developers to optimize SQL queries and database access
- Troubleshoot and resolve databaserelated issues and errors
- Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations processes and procedures
- Implement and maintain data replication and high availability solutions
- Plan and execute database capacity and growth management
- Participate in oncall support and incident management for databaserelated issues
- Evaluate and recommend database tools and utilities to enhance operational efficiency
- Collaborate with other IT teams to support mainframe and crossplatform integration
- Conduct regular system and database performance reviews
- Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements
- Train and mentor junior DBA staff members
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field
- 5 years of experience as a Mainframe DB2 DBA
- Proficiency in DB2 database administration on mainframe platforms
- Strong understanding of mainframe architecture and infrastructure
- Expertise in SQL and performance tuning for DB2 databases
- Experience in data replication high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Knowledge of database security best practices and mechanisms
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex database issues
- Proficient in scripting and automation for database tasks
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Certification in DB2 or mainframe administration is a plus
- Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements for data management
