Job Description
Overview:
The Mainframe DB2 DBA plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and performance of the DB2 database on the mainframe platform. They are responsible for ensuring the availability security and efficiency of the database to support the organizations core operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing implementing and maintaining DB2 databases on mainframe systems.
- Conducting regular performance tuning and optimization to ensure efficient database operations.
- Managing database security access controls and user permissions.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting database issues to minimize downtime.
- Collaborating with development teams to optimize SQL queries and database interactions.
- Implementing backup and recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity.
- Performing database upgrades and patches to ensure system reliability.
- Documenting database configurations processes and procedures.
- Participating in oncall support rotation for urgent databaserelated issues.
- Researching and recommending new technologies to enhance database performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field.
- 5 years of handson experience with DB2 database administration on mainframe systems.
- Proficiency in SQL and database performance tuning techniques.
- Strong understanding of mainframe architecture and operating systems.
- Experience with database security and access control mechanisms.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures for mainframe databases.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Relevant certifications such as IBM Certified Database Administrator DB2 for z/OS.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently in a fastpaced environment.
