Job Description
Job Title: Mechanical Draftsman
Location: Tulisa Park Johannesburg South Africa
Position Overview:
A leading provider of lightning protection and earthing solutions is seeking a skilled Mechanical Draftsman with expertise in AutoCAD. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and designs that support the manufacturing and installation of products. This role requires strong technical knowledge a keen eye for detail and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed mechanical drawings schematics and layouts for lightning protection and earthing systems using AutoCAD.
- Create and update design documentation including 2D and 3D technical drawings.
- Interpret and apply engineering specifications and ensure designs comply with industry standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to develop accurate designs that meet project requirements.
- Conduct revisions and updates to existing drawings based on client feedback or engineering changes.
- Ensure the accuracy clarity and completeness of all technical drawings and documentation.
- Support the manufacturing and assembly process by providing clear and precise design details.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals including conceptual designs and material estimates.
- Maintain and organize drawing files and ensure documentation is accessible and uptodate.
- Adhere to quality standards safety protocols and timelines.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering Drafting or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Draftsman in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) is essential.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems materials and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with lightning protection or earthing systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes.
- Excellent technical drawing and detailing skills.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
