Job Description

My Client a market leader in the manufacturing of poultry feeding equipment more specifically chain and auger conveyors for the purpose of conveying materials in various applications. is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric
  • B.Tech / B.Eng Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Mechanical Equipment Design
  • Minimum of 5 Years Experience in CAD Design Systems as detailed below
  • Reside in Cape Town
    DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT RESIDE IN CPT
  • Have own Reliable Transport to commute to Stikland every day

1. Technical Design and Development (50%)

  • Create and update technical designs and drawings for all departments.
  • Improve and develop designs of existing processes production units and machine components.
  • Design machine layouts P&IDs and site plans as per specifications from Project Engineers.
  • Schedule design reviews with management and stakeholders for approval.
  • Ensure accurate integration of all components.
  • Adhere to design principles specifications and standards.
  • Conduct simulation process tests to verify model prototypes.
  • Ensure correct specifications and configurations on all drawings.
  • Issue detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Develop new machine designs using CAD modeling calculations and technical applications.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams to reduce downtime.
  • Assist engineers with alterations on new and existing machinery.
  • Provide input on design improvements for manufacturing assembly and maintenance.

2. Design Control and Safe Keeping (30%)

  • Maintain standards for drawings and CAD models.
  • Ensure proper recordkeeping issuing and control of all drawings.
  • Save and manage designs in the relevant system/software.
  • Obtain management approval for all design drawings.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Review and sign off design drawings and calculations.
  • Issue final approved drawings for execution and manufacturing.
  • Update manufacturing drawings as per specifications.
  • Provide uptodate design drawings to relevant departments.
  • Maintain a secure and organized design archive.
  • Ensure complete and updated data packs for production.
  • Follow correct procedures for Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
  • Ensure adherence to design principles and standards across departments.

3. Machine Manuals (5%)

  • Manage configuration and administration of machine manuals.
  • Assign correct manual numbers and maintain filing systems.
  • Establish a system for signing over manuals to the Design Team.

4. Research & Application (10%)

  • Conduct research on processes machine parts components and techniques.
  • Adjust technical design configurations as needed.
  • Restore and update drawing models to maintain usability.
  • Implement continuous improvements in design configuration management.
  • Collaborate with R&D on production machinery improvements.
  • Work with R&D and Project Engineers on scheduling design tasks.

5. General Responsibilities (5%)

  • Execute instructions from management.
  • Provide technical support to R&D Plant and Project Engineers.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain software licenses updates and payments for Solid Edge.
  • Ensure timely completion of tasks assigned by the CEO or Technical Director.
  • Submit final design drawings calculations and specifications for approval.
  • Generate weekly reports on design activities and tasks.

6. Reporting Requirements

Reports:

  • Design Task Report (Weekly) to Technical Director Weekly for task and activity reports.
  • Design Activity Report (Weekly) to Technical Director Weekly for task and activity reports.
  • Monday.com updates (Daily) to Technical Director Daily for Monday.com updates.
