Mechanical NDT Technologist

As our Mechanical & NDT Technologist your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Safety Health and Environment
  • Consistently apply safety and health principles in all site interactions within and beyond own area of work
  • Identify specific risks within the working area and adhere to disciplinespecific plans/systems to avoid these risks.
  • Participate in relevant safety audits inspections and observations and address issues to demonstrate safety leadership.
  • Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where employees can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
• Performance and Delivery
• Production Planning and Scheduling:
  • Prepare comprehensive production plans and schedules for product manufacturing ensuring accuracy in statistics and information.
  • Proactively manage asset integrity and performance risks identify potential issues and implement practical solutions.
• Business Performance Targets:
  • Conduct weekly monthly and quarterly performance reviews reporting findings to the relevant managers.
  • Investigate or assign root cause analysis (RCA) to determine the causes of noncompliance in business performance targets and implement action plans for overcoming issues.
  • Create realistic forecasts based on continuous improvement ensuring visibility of targets to the team.
  • Identify and proactively manage risks related to asset integrity and performance.
• Equipment Maintenance (Support):
  • Maintain equipment machines processes and tools to ensure maximum availability and achieve quality standards.
  • Plan implement and manage maintenance schedules with consideration for production targets minimising production interruptions.
  • Identify improvement opportunities implement feasible changes and maintain new performance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with system and administrative requirements reporting accordingly.
• Daily Weekly Monthly Task Execution:
• Daily Tasks:
  • Report daily schedule progress previous days performance risks and urgent work.
  • Review daily output schedule and task compliance.
  • Communicate management instructions address safety and plant deviations and approve/cancel SAP notifications within 24 hours.
  • Monitor daily schedule compliance escalating risks per procedures.
  • Maintain daily communication with subordinates ensuring timely return of completed work orders and providing feedback on execution performance.
• Weekly Tasks:
  • Address weekly schedule compliance and deviations.
  • Sign off on work orders hand them over to the Supervisor following Operating Model procedures and participate in formal weekly schedule review meetings.
  • Report risks and deviations monitor cost control in the Task Status Report (TSR) and review work order planning.
• Monthly Tasks:
  • Ensure thorough preplanning and following procedures and address safety health and managerial instructions.
  • Conduct contractors meetings for those working in the section.
  • Support standards committee procedures and revisions and keep training and induction needs current.
  • Review KPIs and Routine Operating Schedule monitor monthend cost expenditure and perform monthly compliance comparisons for improvement.
• Compliance:
  • Comply with all the Anglo American E&M Framework requirements and best practice guidelines.

This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the General Engineering Supervisor Shuts

Qualifications :

• Relevant National Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical or Electronic Engineering on NQF6

• SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

• • 35 years of relevant experience in a mechanical and NDT technical mining environment especially with control and instrumentation design experience on mobile equipment.
  • Experience working on Liebherr 996 and 9800 and P&H ropes shovels will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance reliability and diagnostics.
  • Understand global and mining equipment automation.
  • Awareness of key value drivers within the disciplines value chain and the interdependence of critical levers.
  • Knowledge of how operational processes are classified according to the Operating Model focusing on Work Management.
  • Knowledge of shutdown management on HME Equipment.
  • Awareness of new technologies and their impact on operational activities within the roles scope.
  • Understand business improvement tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of business acumen and commercial drivers influencing site performance.
  • Familiarity with basic financial metrics and budgeting tools.
  • Awareness of risk management techniques and critical controls.
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of safety health and environmental legislative statutory and regulatory requirements specifically the MHSA.
