Job Description

Site: Princess Margaret Cancer Center & Princess Margaret Cancer Center Lodge
Department: Facilities
Reports to: Building Operator Manager
Wage range: $32.55 $35.28 per hour (Start rate: $32.55 in accordance with collective agreement requirements) 
Status: Permanent FullTime 
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shift: Rotating shifts 24 hours including weekends and statutory holidays

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Lead Hand Building Operator is reporting to the Building Operator Manager. The Lead Hand is responsible for the efficient operations of all mechanical equipment with the standards established and agreed to by the Manager Building Services/Operator.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Major duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Care and operation of all equipment
  • Operation of computerized building automation system
  • Maintain all HVAC and centravacs units
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Give direction to day shift maintenance staff as required

Qualifications :

  • At minimum completion of high school or recognized equivalent required
  • Certificate or Diploma in Building Operations and/or completion of a relevant Ministry approved apprenticeship program or recognized equivalent (if licensed trade possession of the Provincial Certificate of Qualifications) 
  • Minimum 2 years experience in building maintenance electrical and plumbing
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a group to complete tasks
  • Positive outlook good communication and interpersonal skills are required 
  • Must be computer literate to operate automated system
  • Client service oriented with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS)
  • Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
