Job Description
Primary Function of Position
Intuitive Surgical Inc. designs and sells the da Vinci Surgical System a minimally invasive robotic surgery system that uses complex mechanics replaceable instruments and accessories and enhanced threedimensional visualization to extend surgical technique and precision beyond the limits of the human hand.
This is a unique role that requires multiple areas of engineering prototype development and release to production. The Electrical Engineer will design and sustain electrical engineering systems of new and existing endoscopes and endoscope controller. The successful candidate will have the capability to adapt learn fast and work collaboratively with other engineers to resolve complex design and manufacturing issues as well as the ability to work in an interdisciplinary organization to deliver integrated products. Sound engineering judgment aptitude to learn a strong sense of shared responsibility / shared reward is required as well as a commitment to high product quality.
The Electrical Engineer supports the Multiport Vision Engineering team and works closely with other engineering and clinical disciplines to achieve desired outcomes in the areas of electrical engineering. Excellent communication strong sense of ownership and organization skills are critical for success in this role.

Essential Job Duties:
This key technical engineering role work with a talented R&D engineering team responsible developing the next generation of electrooptomechanical product designs. The role requires the ability to collaborate across functions to implement electronics systems that balance performance program risk and commercial viability.
- Implement electronics designs and systems from concept to production release of electrical boards
- Make sound decisions when faced with the time pressures and ambiguous or incomplete information typical of research and development
- Work effectively with other engineering staff and teams across disciplines (such as Software Mechanical Optical Production test Supply Chain Clinical Development Regulatory) to ensure design outputs work in concert with the rest of the system and meets requirements
- Represent Electrical Engineering on crossfunctional project teams; keep track and report / present project status
- Other duties as needed and identified by the functional manager
Qualifications :
Required Skills and Experience
- Work experience and ability to thrive in a fastpaced engineering / R&D environment
- Experience with executing electrical engineering projects while making sound decisions on engineering business tradeoffs or ability and desire to learn these skills
- Familiarity with a broad range of electronic components and hardware including digital analog power microcontrollers logic and communication interfaces; Familiarity and experience with PCB/PCBA fabrication and assembly rigid and flex board design
- Ability and inclination to reach out to members of the team to ask for guidance and mentoring as needed to perform tasks successfully and learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong organizational skills
- Strong sense of ownership and a drive to achieve outcomes aligned with organizations goals
Required Education and Training
- Minimum B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline
- Minimum 3 7 years experience with similar / relevant engineering work
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Prior experience in medical device design and manufacturing
- Ability to effectively collaborate with a team that is split among geographic regions organize effective collaboration in time zones with limited workday overlap and balance cultural differences among contributors

We provide marketcompetitive compensation packages inclusive of base pay incentives benefits and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role as actual pay will be determined based on several factors including experience skills and qualifications.
