Role Summary
The Life Science District Sales Manager (DSM) is responsible for developing and implementing the sales strategy for their defined geography. The primary objective is to manage a team of direct Sales Engineers and Representatives to increase our market penetration while retaining existing business for the entire Life Science product portfolio. This will be accomplished by networking both internally and externally to establish relationships with key stake holders across the industry to ensure the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness in daytoday tasks. The DSM is expected to intimately know the market factors of their district so that they can help drive the overall business strategy of WatsonMarlow’s Life Science division.
This Role Will Focus On
- Managing all aspects of sales activity in their district in line with WMFTS corporate strategy.
- Gathering market intelligence with insight to new sales opportunities feedback on recommended product enhancement and competitive environment to provide recommendations to the National Sales Manager and Marketing department.
- Continuously develop strong technical and commercial knowledge of all WatsonMarlow products. Assist direct sales team and customers with providing application and commercial solutions.
- Submit periodic reports to the business as requested including accurate pipeline and business forecasts that can be used for strategic planning.
- Drive customer penetration strategies with direct team to build a customer database and establish relationships with all key stake holders within the various functional groups of each customer. This includes but is not limited to engineering quality MRO regulatory procurement and onsite engineering firm contractors.
- Establish sales targets and goals for each Sales Engineer. Coach their performance throughout the year by providing timely constructive feedback.
- Responsible for conducting biannual performance reviews with direct reports to evaluate their performance review targets and drive key actions.
- Report market insight regarding factors related to competition technology products requirements pricing and any other issues that may impact your district.
- Comply with all policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the National Sales Manager.
Who You’ll Be Working With
Sales Team: Direct leadership and collaboration with the district sales team for South East District.
Inside Sales Team: Partner with the Inside Sales department to ensure client needs are met with excellence and feedback is used to improve quoting and service delivery.
Application Engineering Team: Partner with the Applications Engineering department to ensure client needs are met with excellence and feedback is used to improve product and service offerings.
Business Development Team: Collaborate with business development professionals to identify and pursue new business opportunities enhancing market share and customer base with WM Strategic Account in the South East District.
Product Management: Coordinate closely with product managers to gain deep insights into the product portfolio ensuring accurate representation of features and benefits to clients.
To Be Successful In This Role You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration
- Comprehensive understanding of selling into the Life Science bioprocess market.
- Established network of relevant customer contacts within assigned district.
- Extensive experience in the Biopharmaceutical industry.
- Proven experience managing direct reports.
- Live in the Raleigh Durham Area to actively travel with team.
- Experience selling capital equipment singleuse and multiuse fluid path products.
- Strong consultative selling skills.
- Proficient in Windows applications Microsoft Office suite and MS CRM or equivalent
- Functional knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. Microsoft Dynamics AX experience a plus.
