The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters anglers boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlifeassociated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing hunting trapping and boating laws. The NCWRC employs 700 fulltime staff across the state including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians wildlife law enforcement officers wildlife educators communication specialists customer service information technology and administrative professionals.
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s Wildlife Management Division monitors the health and status of wildlife populations developing and administering programs for their management and wise use and when necessary helping to resolve humanwildlife interactions in a manner assuring a diverse wildlife resource for future generations of North Carolinians. The division provides services in a variety of ways including providing technical guidance to landowners wanting to manage wildlife on their lands and monitoring the health and status of wildlife populations. The Operations Program is responsible for ensuring agency programs and activities related to wildlife management and ecology are administered to local landscapes landholders other public and private entities outside the agency and the hunting and nonhunting public.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for a Conservation Biologist I (HWI Technical Assistance Biologist) for our Wildlife Management Division. The primary purpose of this position is to receive and fulfill incoming calls to the Agency regarding problem wildlife and human/wildlife interactions (HWI).
This position has extensive contact with constituents and members of the public and must deliver accurate information with regards to wildlife biology and management animal behavior problem solving and conflict resolution such that the issue is resolved to the extent possible at the first point of Agency contact. It is the expectation that this position will address the constituent’s concerns questions or situations without referring or escalating the call to Division field staff unless the position decides direct on the ground interaction is required. The position must interpret and explain division and agency policies procedures and regulations as well as provide general technical guidance and information to the public.
This position is HOMEBASED. The workstation for this position is in the employee’s homebased office using an agencyprovided computer. The employee in this position is expected to provide home office space compliant with WRC and State policies. This position also has statewide responsibilities and will regularly require travel to assignments work and projects based across the state.
The work schedule for this position will be 40 hours a week (MondayFriday) with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Qualified Applicants Must Possess
- Knowledge of wildlife management and animal behavior.

Management Preference
- Experience conveying complex rules and statutes that apply to wildlife management and human wildlife interactions in a call center environment.
Special Qualification/Requirement
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of employment.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management fisheries science zoology or a biological science or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Some positions require coursework in forestry.
