Senior Urban Designer

Arcadis Global Architecture & Urbanism Division combines the expertise of IBIs Buildings and Placemaking practice our Places capabilities and CRTKLs multisector design leadership to offer a diverse range of solutions focusing on humancentric design sustainability and technology.

Arcadis is looking for a talented Senior Urban Designer to join us fulltime at our Placemaking Studio in Ottawa. As our Senior Urban Designer you will also work with senior leadership to grow the Placemaking practice in Ottawa. As a leader and mentor to junior team members you will be instrumental in the design and implementation of a diverse range of projects ranging from neighborhood master plans smart cities urban design TOD transit planning streetscape design parks residential development resorts amongst others for public and private sector clients. You will also collaborate with our Toronto team of urban designers landscape architects and planning professionals on local and international projects of various scales.

As part of the Placemaking team you will be immersed in a fastpaced dynamic environment creating contemporary inclusive responsive sustainable public and private highquality spaces. You will be involved in all phases of the project from the master planning consultation and conceptual design through to detailed design. You will surely thrive at Arcadis and expand your experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and balancing innovation and design excellence with desirable outcomes for our clients and their communities.

Role Accountabilities: 

• Lead and collaborate with senior leadership through responding and developing the creative content for RFP responses and supportingrelevant marketing and business development initiatives
• CollaboratewithandmentorJunior Urban Designers / Planners / Landscape Architects on a variety of private and public sector urban design landscape architecture master planning and planning projects
• Independentlymanageand lead multidisciplinary teams and assist with project completion from initial proposal compilation to detailed design and report delivery
• Developmasterplans site plans built formand massing for a variety of projects ranging in complexity scope and context
• Prepareand present highquality graphic presentations detailed design schemes and reports
• Engagewith andmanageClients/Stakeholders and ensuringdeadlines and budgetary constraints are met for all projects
• Demonstratestrong verbal written and graphic communication skills andensurethat a high level of professionalism and design excellence are upheld within each project

Qualifications :

Qualifications & Experience:  

• University degree in Architecture Urban Design Landscape Architecture or Planning
• 10 years of experience in Urban Design or related fields in a professional office withprovenexperience leadingandmanagingmultidisciplinaryteams
• Demonstrated success working with public and private sector clientsin Ottawa region. Previous experience working with public sector and IO as Clients will be an asset
• Professionalregistrationwith OALA or OAA or OPPI
• Inquisitive and selfmotivated individual withstrong leadership andorganizational skills
• Multidisciplinary interestsin Urban Design Landscape ArchitectureTransportationPlanningandUrban /Regional Planningincludinga strong awareness/understandingof current planning and design issuesand trends
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills capable of assisting in the preparation of reports and developing design narratives
• Independent design capabilities to preparesite plan and master plan concepts
• Knowledge ofAutoCADRevitRhinoSketchUp and 3D modelling skills for developing complex urban design conceptsconsidered an asset
• Strong mentorship capabilities to guide and collaborate withjuniordesigners and professionals
• Capacity to multitaskandthrive in a fastpaced environmentwithakeen eye for detail/precision
• Capacity touphold design excellencein challenging project timeframes and deadlines
• Proficient inMicrosoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) and Adobe SuiteInDesign
• Valid drivers license is considered an asset
