Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

As a Postdoctoral Fellow in Information Systems, responsibilities will include teaching, co-teaching, or supporting two to three undergraduate courses per year, working closely with students and faculty, and supporting our educational mission. Successful candidates are also expected to manage and grow their own research agenda potentially in collaboration with CMU-Q faculty and/or local partners.

The Information Systems Program at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar offers an undergraduate major which aims to educate local and international students to meet the increasing demand for information systems skills in Qatar, the Gulf region, and globally. We are particularly interested in candidates in the areas of Information Systems Fundamentals, Systems Design and Development, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or Digital Innovation. Outstanding candidates in other areas are also encouraged to apply. CMU Qatar's benefits package is highly attractive, with salaries comparable to those in the US, but usually free of tax. Teaching and Instruction

Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops on information systems topics such as database management, enterprise systems, data analytics, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure.
Create course materials, including syllabi, assignments, quizzes, and exams, ensuring they align with academic standards and industry trends.
Facilitate interactive learning through case studies, group projects, and hands-on labs, using real-world examples of information systems applications.
Curriculum Development

Design and update courses and programs in Information Systems to reflect the latest technological advancements and industry practices.
Ensure courses cover critical aspects of information systems, including systems analysis and design, IT project management, and strategic IT alignment.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure coherence and integration of information systems topics across the department's offerings.


Desired candidate profile

Have completed a PhD in Information Systems or related fields by the time of being hired.
A proven track record of productive research in Information Systems.
Potential for developing teaching expertise in Information Systems.
Exceptionally strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Desire to gain hands-on teaching experience.
Be able to work independently, as well as in a team.
A proven track record in teaching information systems at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Strong experience in conducting high-quality research in areas such as IT management, database systems, cybersecurity, data analytics, or enterprise systems.
Experience in guiding and mentoring graduate students, supervising theses, and conducting research projects.
Research Expertise

Expertise in key areas of Information Systems, such as cloud computing, big data analytics, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, artificial intelligence, or IT security.
A strong publication record in reputable journals and conferences in the field of Information Systems.
Experience in securing research grants and funding for research initiatives.
Teaching Skills and Pedagogical Approach

Proficiency in developing and delivering course content in various formats, including lectures, online learning, and hands-on labs.
Ability to teach a wide range of subjects within Information Systems, from technical subjects (e.g., database design) to managerial topics (e.g., IT strategy).
Familiarity with contemporary teaching methodologies and technologies, including online education platforms and virtual labs.
