Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) Medsurg plays a vital role in providing highquality nursing care to patients in a medicalsurgical unit. They work with individuals who are recovering from surgery or managing chronic illnesses making their role critical for patient recovery and wellbeing. RNs in this specialty collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop implement and evaluate nursing care plans tailored to each patients needs. Their responsibilities extend to administering medications monitoring vital signs and providing education and support to both patients and their families. With a strong focus on patient safety and comfort RNs in Medsurg are essential in ensuring efficient patient flow reducing hospital readmission rates and enhancing overall patient satisfaction. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments upon admission and throughout the hospital stay.
- Develop implement and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient needs.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the healthcare provider.
- Monitor and document patients vital signs and changes in condition.
- Provide wound care and manage postoperative patients.
- Assist with diagnostic tests and the preparation of patients.
- Educate patients and families on health management and discharge instructions.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety.
- Act as an advocate for patients and their families to ensure their needs are met.
- Assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment in the clinical setting.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient records.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients experiencing anxiety or pain.
- Stay updated on best practices protocols and advancements in nursing care.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in a Medsurg setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Strong understanding of nursing principles and practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced environment.
- Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
