Job Description: Slitting Machine Operator (CRGO Industry)
Location: VILAS TRANSCORE LIMITED (VADODARA GUJARAT)
Job Summary:
The Slitting Machine Operator in the CRGO (Cold Rolled Grain Oriented) steel industry is responsible for operating slitting machines to cut large coils of CRGO steel into narrower strips of precise dimensions. These slitting strips are critical in the production of transformers electric motors and other electromagnetic applications. The operator must ensure that the slitting process meets quality safety and operational efficiency standards while adhering to strict tolerance limits for the CRGO material.
Required Qualifications : DIPLOMA / ITI
Experience:
- Minimum of 23 years of experience as a Slitting Machine Operator preferably in the CRGO or metal processing industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up adjust and operate slitting machines to cut CRGO steel coils into narrower strips according to production specifications.
- Ensure correct slitting blade settings tension control and coil alignment to achieve accurate cut widths and smooth edges.
- Monitor the entire slitting process to ensure the finished strips meet product requirements for dimensions and quality.
- Inspect the slitting strips for defects such as burrs edge waviness or dimensional inaccuracies.
- Measure the width and thickness of slitting strips using appropriate tools to ensure they meet the required specifications.
- Perform visual and tactile inspections to check for any surface defects or contamination on the CRGO steel strips.
- Reject or flag defective material and coordinate with quality control teams to address any issues.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ensure proper handling of CRGO coils and slitting strips to prevent damage contamination or safety incidents.
- Follow plant safety protocols to prevent accidents related to machine operation lifting and material handling.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on slitting machines including cleaning lubricating and checking components for wear and tear.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical or operational issues with the slitting machine to minimize downtime.
- Report any major machine faults or performance issues to maintenance staff promptly for repair or corrective action.
- Handle and transport CRGO coils and slitting strips using appropriate lifting equipment hoists or cranes.
- Ensure that coils are properly staged for the slitting process and that finished strips are stacked or coiled correctly.
- Monitor material usage and ensure proper inventory control tracking material inputs and outputs.
- Assist in optimizing machine parameters and slitting techniques to reduce s minimize downtime and improve production efficiency.
- Work closely with other operators and team members to implement improvements in the slitting process.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing productivity reducing waste and enhancing product quality.
- Maintain accurate records of production runs including material usage machine settings and production quantities.
- Report on any incidents or deviations in production to supervisors ensuring transparency and prompt resolution.
- Document routine machine checks maintenance activities and any quality issues identified during production
- Work closely with the production team quality control and maintenance departments to ensure smooth operation and timely completion of orders.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers regarding any challenges or potential improvements in the slitting process.
