Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and professional Institutional Counsellor to provide psychological support to students staff and faculty in an academic environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for offering individual and group counseling sessions crisis intervention and promoting mental health awareness. The counsellor will work collaboratively with academic and administrative teams to enhance the wellbeing and personal development of the institutions community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individual and Group Counseling:
- Provide oneonone and group counseling sessions to students and staff on personal academic career and emotional challenges.
- Assist individuals in managing stress anxiety depression and other mental health issues.
- Conduct counseling sessions for students dealing with academic pressure adjustment difficulties relationship issues and other personal matters.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Provide immediate support in case of mental health crises including risk assessment intervention and referral to appropriate resources if needed.
- Work closely with faculty staff and students to identify signs of mental health distress and intervene accordingly.
- Mental Health Awareness and Programs:
- Develop and conduct workshops seminars and awareness programs on mental health topics stress management and wellbeing.
- Advocate for mental health awareness and reduce stigma associated with seeking counseling support.
- Academic and Career Counseling:
- Assist students in overcoming academic challenges and provide guidance on study skills time management and career planning.
- Support students with academic advising and career development counseling as needed.
- Assessment and Documentation:
- Maintain detailed and confidential records of counseling sessions including progress notes treatment plans and referrals.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counseling interventions and adapt strategies based on individual needs.
- Student Development:
- Encourage students emotional and psychological development to support their academic and personal growth.
- Promote a positive institutional climate by fostering inclusivity wellbeing and emotional resilience.
- Policy and Compliance:
- Ensure that all counseling activities comply with ethical standards and institutional policies.
- Stay updated on current mental health trends therapeutic practices and regulatory guidelines.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements:
- Masters degree in Psychology Counseling Social Work or a related field.
- Experience:
- Proven experience in counseling preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
- Experience working with diverse populations including students from various academic cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of counseling techniques mental health assessment and therapeutic modalities.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies and mental health resources.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Proficient in maintaining confidential records and documentation.
