The Role: We are seeking Specialist/Consultant - Cardiology and Internal Medicine to join a dedicated team in a rural setting.
Salary package - $337,429 Desirable- Sub-Specialty training in Advanced Cardiac Imaging (including echo, CT-coronary angiography or Cardiac MRI) or Heart Failure.

The region has the highest prevalence of multiple Cardiovascular conditions in Australia, including acute coronary syndromes, rheumatic heart disease and heart failure. The Cardiology department provides an inpatient service, multiple outpatient services (including outreach services) and various diagnostic services including transthoracic and trans-oesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, CT-computed tomography, exercise stress testing and various ambulatory services including holter and blood pressure monitoring, device monitoring etc. Patients requiring cardiac catheterisation, device procedures or cardio-thoracic surgery are referred to Tertiary centres in South Australia.
Key duties and responsibilities- Provide strong leadership and manage all aspects of the day-to-day activities of within Cardiology and the Department of Medicine, focusing on patient safety and quality of services.
- Provide high quality safe inpatient, outpatient and outreach clinical services in Internal Medicine.
- Initiate and partake in quality management activities, performance appraisal, personal and Departmental continuing education programs.
- Ensure adequate supervision of and participation in teaching programs for junior medical staff, including advanced trainees and medical students.
- Undertake Clinical Audit activities and research as appropriate.
- Participate in relevant Hospital Committees and other administrative duties as required from time-to-time and provide advice to the Director of Medical and Clinical Services on matters relating to Internal Medical.
- Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
The Hospital: The Hospital is a 189 bed Hospital it is the only acute secondary care service for 1500km in any direction and more than 60% of admissions are Aboriginal people often from remote communities.
The hospital provides the following services: Day Procedure, Emergency, Intensive Care and High Dependency, Maternity, Medical, Outpatients, Paediatric, Special Care Nursery, Surgical and Mental Health, plus arrange of clinical support services. It is also accredited with the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards and has links to many external research organisations.

Hike, climb and cycle your way through the chasms, craters and sacred Aboriginal sites of the MacDonnell Ranges, or four-wheel drive the expansive Simpson Desert in the southeast.

Skills & Qualifications required:- Appropriate specialist qualifications and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent.
- Interest in Indigenous health and ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
- Good verbal and written skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to assume administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
- Eligible for specialist medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
