Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1.1 Naval Base Guam Chapel provides religious support for all Navy personnel and family members attending services and programs. The organization provides NBG as well as all tenant commands around the Island of Guam guidance in matters concerning the free exercise of religious beliefs and religious services relating to the spiritual needs of service members and family while stationed at NBG. Additionally the Chapel provides programs to strengthen and support the moral spiritual and interpersonal relationships of the patrons it serves.

2.0 OBJECTIVE/SCOPE

2.1 NBG Chapel seeks a qualified Contractor to provide musical directorial support to NBG personnel and the chapel. Historically up to 300 events including both rehearsals and services are required to fulfill this service.

3.0 QUALIFICATIONS

3.1 Service provider shall be experienced in leading service music within the church community.

3.2 Service provider shall have a degree or comparable formal music training in music performance and choral arts.

3.3 Service provider shall have experience in recruiting/training/leading a musical team consisting of vocalists and instrumentalists including the recruitment and training singers. Instrumentalist will include keyboard(s) and may include electric/acoustic guitars bass guitar and percussion.

3.4 Service provider shall be at least 18 years of age.

3.5 Service provider shall be able to provide music from the established and approved hymnals and other resources as needed.

3.6 Service provider will be interviewed either in person or by teleconference by Chapel Service personnel panel to include the Command Chaplain and Roman Catholic Priest prior to determine qualifications.

4.0 PROVISIONS

4.1 Contractor shall provide personal transportation to and from the work center to meet the requirements of the agreement.

4.2 Contractor shall provide musical services a minimum of three times a Sunday: (at least 2 services plus an additional service or practice). Rehearsal times may change only in coordination with the Chaplain in charge of the service. Worship Service hours are not negotiable unless the Command Chaplain adjusts the worship service schedule. Service unit to be paid under the contact will based upon actual work performed by the contractor and accepted by the government. Service units under this contract shall not exceed 166 sessions per year.

4.3 The Director will be provided with appropriate music supplies and equipment.

5.0 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

5.1 Music Director shall provide leadership for the musical portions of the worship services.

5.2 Music Director will direct the vocalists musicians accompanists and/or the congregation in musical selections during worship service.

5.3 Music Director shall work in conjunction with the Command Chaplain or Roman Catholic Priest (or his designate) in the selection preparation and performance of music which relates to the theme established by scripture reading chaplains topic/theme and/or religious season. Special music information will be turned in to the chaplain in charge of the service no later than Tuesday 10 AM prior to the following weekend services.

5.4 At the end of a rehearsal or worship service the Music Director will ensure that all equipment is deactivated and all equipment/furnishings are returned to their proper place.

5.5 Music Director will wear clothing appropriate to a positive family worship environment when performing services and rehearsals.

5.6 Music Director shall be present for the entire time period involved in any rehearsal performance or worship service agreed upon unless previously negotiated..

5.7 Music Director shall be punctual for services and rehearsals unless previously negotiated.

5.8 Music Director shall provide services (subcontractor) of someone who is of equal or greater qualification when Director will be absent from a required rehearsal or performance. Prior approval for absences and substitutes is required from the COR at least fortyeight (48) hours prior to the service.

5.9 Music Director shall adhere to computer security requirements and usage.

5.10 Music Director shall maintain professional courteous relationship with Chaplain Service staff other chapel community nonpersonal service vendors contractors and chapel community participants.

5.11 Music Director shall comply with copyright license reporting and copyright license identification procedures.

5.12 In accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 1402.5 Criminal History Background Checks on Individuals in Child Care Services Music Director agrees to perform required actions to complete background checks. Background checks are required for the Director her/his assistants and volunteers who provide the service. Music Director shall not employ any person to perform any work or services required by this agreement on the military installation if objection to any such person is made by the Command Chaplain.

5.12.1 Music Director shall ensure her/his assistants and volunteers have proper criminal history background checks as outlined in Chapel Operating Instruction 1402.5 Criminal History Background Check Program.

5.12.2 Actual checks are performed by the Government.

6.0 PERFORMANCE

6.1 Place of Performance:

NBG Chapel Office: Building 1984 A B and C Naval Base Guam.
