Job Summary
The Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal support ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and managing all corporate legal affairs. The individual will handle documentation contract negotiations and any other legal responsibilities necessary to protect the organization s interests.
Key Responsibilities
1. Legal Compliance and Advisory
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and legal requirements.
- Provide legal advice and guidance to management and staff on various matters.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the organization and advise accordingly.
2. Contract and Documentation Management
- Draft review and manage contracts agreements and other legal documents.
- Ensure all contracts comply with applicable laws and company policies.
- Maintain an organized repository of legal documents for reference and auditing purposes.
3. Dispute Resolution
- Handle legal disputes involving the organization including liaising with external counsel when necessary.
- Represent the organization in legal proceedings if required.
- Negotiate and settle disputes to avoid litigation where possible.
4. Corporate Governance
- Assist in drafting and reviewing company policies and procedures to ensure they comply with legal standards.
- Ensure proper filing of corporate records such as board resolutions and shareholder agreements.
5. Risk Management
- Identify and assess potential legal risks to the organization.
- Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Educate employees on legal risks and compliance requirements.
6. External Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with external regulatory authorities such as tax bodies corporate affairs commissions and labor regulators to ensure compliance.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel when outsourced legal expertise is required.
Requirements
Key Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor s Degree in Law (LLB). Must be a qualified and practicing lawyer with relevant certification and a Call to Bar.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 3 years of professional legal experience preferably in a corporate environment.
