Job Description
As a Special Education Teacher you ll play a pivotal role in fostering a structured positive learning space that encourages independence and personal growth for students with disabilities. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that align with each student s unique learning needs and goals and regularly assessing their progress to tailor strategies accordingly.
With a focus on adapting curriculum and teaching methods to accommodate various learning abilities you ll keep detailed records of student achievements and needs contributing to their educational journey. Continuous professional development opportunities will be available keeping you connected with the latest in special education best practices.
Position Summary:
- Prepare and implement the instructional process for students with IEPs
- Deliver instruction through the use of curriculum materials and educational software
- Develop daily lesson plans and classroom schedules that reflect state and school requirements
- Implement standards for student behavior to ensure a safe secure and effective learning environment by providing a high degree of structure clear expectations and consistency
Requirements
Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement.
Education: Bachelors degree in Special Education Education or a related field; a Masters degree is preferred.
Professional Growth: Commitment to ongoing professional development in special education practices and standards.
Experience: Prior experience working with students with disabilities in a classroom or similar setting is strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Strong ability to collaborate with educators families and support staff.
- Excellent communication skills with a compassionate approach to student needs.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles.
