Required Qualifications

• Education:

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Software Electrical Aerospace or related field.

• Experience:

  • 7 years building and shipping embedded Linux distributions.

  • Expert knowledge of C/C Git and Yocto/Open Embedded.

  • Proficient in embedded Linux configuration development board support packages bootloaders kernel and drivers.

  • Experience in root cause analysis and advanced troubleshooting at the kernel level.

  • Familiarity with protocols (RS232 SPI I2C CAN) and hardwareintheloop integration.

  • Demonstrated experience across all phases of the software development lifecycle.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with crossdisciplinary teams.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Lead Embedded Linux Engineer to join a startup in the northern Virginia area. This innovative company is developing patented communications technology that enables text messaging worldwide through direct satellitetomobile device communications. As a key player you will lead the development of the companys custom Linux distribution and work with a small agile team throughout the software development lifecycle.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the development of the custom Linux distribution.

• Create Board Support Packages for existing and new hardware.

• Maintain layers and recipes while supporting multiple CPU architectures (ARM x86 etc.).

• Port the distribution to new platforms and create tooling for satellite and telecommunications software engineers.

• Design and implement mechanisms for OTA updates on production satellites.

• Serve as the Linux expert on the engineering team.

Ways to Stand Out

• Experience with PREEMPTRT and software for SmallSats/CubeSats.

• Familiarity with CI/CD for release artifacts and Docker.

• Experience creating container images from Yocto artifacts.
