Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Adapt curriculum materials and teaching methods to support students with disabilities.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Adjust instructional strategies based on ongoing assessment data.
  • Work closely with general education teachers paraprofessionals and other support staff.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and IEP goals.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with the IEP team to develop and review plans.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to support student engagement and learning.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
  • Stay current with best practices in special education and instructional strategies.
  • Attend professional development workshops and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share resources and strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience working with elementaryaged students with disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations.
  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and functional behavior assessments (FBAs).
  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices.
