(this is an onsite opportunity based in downtown Toronto)
Our client is a boutique law firm working with clients in some of the most exciting industries. They specialize in law across Intellectual Property Corporate Law Franchising Law and Litigation in technology artificial intelligence software biotechnology and more industries! They also work with companies big and small; established and some of the hottest startups!
- Draft and report patent applications file receipts assignments and other relevant legal documentation
- Manage reminders for foreign filings Office Actions Notices of Allowance and maintenance fees. Ensure accurate reporting and preparation of all necessary legal documents
- Prepare draft letters and reminders for agents and clients managing communications with efficiency and clarity
- Preparing and filing applications directly with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and/or the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- Aid with new PCT applications and become familiar with PCT procedures where needed
- Leverage modern IP systems and provide input on techdriven improvements in daily processes and workflows
- Regularly communicate with clients to provide updates draft reports and follow up on pending deadlines
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a patent clerk or in a related patent assistant role. Exposure to patent law is essential
- Strong knowledge of USPTO systems (especially Patent Center) as well as Canadian IP Office processes. Familiarity with modern IP management software systems is a plus
- Extremely organized and detailoriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fastpaced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft clear and concise documentation for legal filings and client correspondence
- A Legal Assistant Diploma Law Clerk Program certification or Paralegal degree is an asset
- Comfortable with MS Office (especially Outlook and Word) Adobe Acrobat and willing to adopt new technology solutions to improve efficiency
- FrenchEnglish bilingualism is considered a strong asset

2+ years of previous coordinator or customer success experience. Previous experience working in a B2B environment preferred. Experience relevant to client processes and providing exceptional client experiences. High level of business acumen and professionalism in dealing with clients and stakeholders. Experience within a legal environment is considered an asset. Ability to adapt to and learn new applications quickly, demonstrating strong technology savvy. Proven ability to challenge the norm and thrive in an innovative environment. Comfortable working independently and in ambiguous situations.
