Job Description
Overview:
Our client is in the mining industry. Focusing on excellence and innovation they lead the way in mining operations across South Africa
Responsibilities:
- Legal Strategy and Compliance:
- Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with the companys overall objectives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant mining laws environmental regulations labour laws and other legal requirements.
- Monitor changes in legislation and advise management on potential impacts.
- Contract Management:
- Review draft and negotiate contracts related to mining operations including joint ventures supply agreements and service contracts.
- Provide legal guidance during contract negotiations and dispute resolution.
- Risk Management:
- Identify legal risks associated with mining activities and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with other departments to assess and manage legal risks effectively.
- Litigation and Dispute Resolution:
- Manage legal disputes including litigation arbitration and mediation.
- Work closely with external legal counsel when necessary.
- Corporate Governance:
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance principles.
- Advise the board of directors on legal matters.
- Employee Relations:
- Provide legal guidance on employment matters including labour disputes disciplinary actions and employee contracts.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure fair and legal employment practices.
- Environmental and Health & Safety Compliance:
- Advise on environmental regulations health and safety standards and community relations.
- Assist in obtaining necessary permits and licenses.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Engage with government agencies local communities and other stakeholders.
- Represent the company in legal matters externally.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage a team of legal professionals including attorneys and paralegals.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Qualifications:
- Law Degree: A bachelors degree in law (LLB) or equivalent.
- Admission as an Attorney: Must be admitted as an attorney in South Africa.
- Mining Industry Experience: Extensive experience in the mining sector.
