As the Specialist Doctor – Aeromedical Centre will play an integral role in developing a world class Aviation Medical Centre for the airline. Responsible for the medical certification of the flying staff of QR as well as those of other airlines as required. Provide specialist aviation medicine advice and clinical services to support QR staff and the broader functions of the aeromedical centre such as: passenger fitness to fly, passenger health, travel health and managing emerging health threats to the operation. Actively engage in research and audit around the aeromedical function as well as mentor and support company doctors assigned to the aeromedical centre Accountabilities: • Responsible for development of the Policy and Procedures needed to run an efficient and cost effective Aeromedical Health Service. • Support the VP – Aeromedical Centre and Specialist Occupational Health doctor in the strategic delivery of health educational programs for the company as a whole. • Play a role in the development and expansion of the aeromedical services to support QR operations. • Certify the fitness to fly of QR and non-QR flight deck, cabin crew and air traffic controllers as well as other airlines aircrew when required. • Provide medical consultations and regulatory advice to aviation employees. • Provide medical advice to the business regarding passenger health issues, i.e. fitness to fly / health onboard. • Advise on matters related to occupational health and raise awareness for occupational health-related medical issues within the business. • Oversee the performance and practice of company doctors assigned to the aeromedical centre and supervise their practice as necessary • Provide advice and the assessment of complex or long-term aeromedical cases referred by colleagues or HR business partners using an evidence-based approach. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest scientific research within the aviation medicine arena, and engage with the assigned external medical community to monitor developments and ensure that the Qatar Airways Medical Centre employs international best practice in all areas. • Support the VP – Aeromedical Services in providing accurate, timely and evidence-based aviation medicine advice to both staff and the airline. • Function in the role of Medical Review Officer to assist the VP in oversight of drug and alcohol testing process and policy and management of cases following testing • Assists the VP in ensuring that the aeromedical services remain compliant with regulatory standards from various regulators, e.g. EASA/FAA/QCAA • Establish reviews of aviation medicine related cases to enhance productivity, drive down absenteeism and support employee retention • Support the VP-Aeromedical Centre in the maintenance and update of the Aviation Medicine knowledge, expertise and training across the department for all clinical staff. • Act as a focal point for liaison with the Aeroemdical team and QR Group Flight Operation Departments • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department. Qualifications About you You will possess: • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with Minimum 10 years of job-related experience • Primary Medical Degree from an accredited university. • Must be an accredited specialist in Occupational Medicine with a recognized qualification in Aviation Medicine (Diploma, Masters or above) or an accredited specialist in Aviation/Aerospace Medicine. • Class 1 Aviation Medical Examiner with an ICAO contracting state for at least 5 years • Experience in a commercial aviation setting • Experience in passenger health / fitness to fly / aeromedical retrieval • Command of English language. • Relevant management experience.
