Job Description

Job Title: Controller

Location: Calgary AB

Our client is a leading technology company committed to innovation and excellence delivering cuttingedge solutions to clients. They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join their dynamic finance team.

Job Summary: The Controller will oversee all financial activities including accounting financial reporting budgeting and compliance. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills attention to detail and a deep understanding of the technology industry. The Controller will work closely with senior management to support strategic decisionmaking and ensure the company's financial health and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management:

    • Oversee all accounting operations including Billing A/R A/P GL Cost Accounting Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition.
    • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  2. Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
    • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
    • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  3. Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with federal state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation consulting with outside advisors and filing financial reports.
    • Advise management of actions and potential risks.
  4. Internal Controls:

    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
    • Implement and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  5. Audit:

    • Manage and coordinate internal and external audits.
    • Provide recommendations for improvement as needed to enhance the company's financial performance and ensure compliance.
  6. Team Leadership:

    • Manage and mentor the finance and accounting team fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
    • Provide technical support and advice on management.
  7. Strategic Planning:

    • Support the CFO in engaging the board of directors around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
    • Assist in the company's strategic planning and execution to enhance profitability and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting Finance or related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 710 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 35 years in a leadership role within the technology industry.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks SAP Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Knowledge of GAAP and other regulatory standards.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Communication: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to nonfinancial stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with financial modeling and forecasting in a tech environment.
  • Familiarity with venture capital and private equity funding.
  • Experience in scaling finance operations in a highgrowth tech company.
