Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Production Manager for the Machine Shop oversees all aspects of machining operations ensuring adherence to production plans quality standards and safety regulations. The individual will be responsible for coordinating with various teams to optimize resources monitor performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage machining operations to align with monthly production plans and customer delivery schedules.
  2. Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure effective machine loading and adherence to dispatch plans.
  3. Ensure availability of raw materials for production and address shortages or delays promptly.
  4. Maintain stock levels of essential tooling required for machining operations.
  5. Provide technical support by preparing drawings designing/modifying tooling and estimating tool life for work orders.
  6. Support innovation efforts to enhance machining processes.
  7. Efficiently schedule and distribute workforce to optimize manpower utilization.
  8. Approve additional workforce requisitions as needed to meet production demands.
  9. Regularly review KPIs to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
  10. Drive initiatives to enhance overall operational performance.
  11. Plan for new equipment based on production needs and coordinate with project teams for integration.
  12. Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure equipment effectiveness and address breakdowns promptly.
  13. Lead quality assurance efforts collaborating with QA/QC teams on dimension and NDT activities.
  14. Ensure adherence to quality standards throughout production processes. Oversee the implementation and maintenance of Quality Management Systems.
  15. Guide the team in NonConformance Report (NCR) process as part of crossfunctional teams.
  16. Analyze MIS reports to gain insights into departmental performance and support decisionmaking.
  17. Drive continuous improvement initiatives through practices such as 5S TPM and Lean Management.
  18. Conduct regular Gemba walks to identify and resolve operational issues proactively.
  19. Manage safety and environmental health in the plant implementing corrective actions for improvement.
  20. Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in metallurgy mechanical engineering or industrial engineering.
  • Masters degree in Industrial Management is preferable.
  • Experience:

  • 6 to 16 years of proven experience as a Manager in Machine Shop for any foundry or casting manufacturing industry.
  • Technical / Functional Expertise & other competencies:

    • Indepth understanding of the casting industry processes including casting methods materials and quality standards.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of machining processes CNC programming tooling and machine operations.
    • Strong background in quality management systems including the ability to conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
    • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings especially proof machining drawings and ensuring their alignment with production requirements.
    • Expertise in managing and optimizing tooling including addressing tool breakages reviewing machinewise logbooks and minimizing production losses.
    • Ability to conduct machining feasibility studies and estimate machining costs for new items during the inquiry stage.
    • Well versed with the knowledge of AS9100 & ISO9001/14001/45001 along with knowledge of 7 QC tools.
    • Additional knowledge of Lean 5S and Six Sigma methodologies is preferable.
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
    • Leadership skills to manage a team organize daily reviews and initiate discussions for issue resolution and brainstorming.
