Our client, a leading organization in Washington, DC, in partnership with Randstad, is seeking experienced ESS Design Specialists / Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for a 12+ month contract role. The position is hybrid onsite in Washington, DC.
Job Overview: As an ESS Design Specialist / SME, you will play a pivotal role in supporting Physical and Electronic Security System (ESS) Capital Projects. This involves conducting security design reviews and audits to ensure compliance with technical requirements and design standards. The focus will be on Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems (ACS). This is a critical position with direct impact on the security of Amtrak facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and audit security designs from project partners for compliance with design requirements and standards.
- Develop initial design guidance and requirements, identifying areas of concern and recommending appropriate mitigations.
- Communicate operational security requirements to internal and external project partners.
- Recommend changes, modifications, or upgrades to security designs to ensure appropriate security levels based on identified risks.
Essential Functions:
- Review security designs for compliance with Amtrak physical security requirements.
- Provide team support for security systems in construction projects.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Ensure adherence to CS Policies and Standards.
- Complete project assignments with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience in corporate security roles.
- Experience in the design and application of electronic security systems for construction projects.
- Familiarity with federal requirements, manufacturer standards, and industry best practices for ESS.
- Basic knowledge of local and national codes (NEC, IBC, NFPA) related to security system design and operation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Visio / CAD / Bluebeam.
- Background in the transportation sector.
- Proficient understanding of threat vulnerability assessment processes.
- Experience working on Federal projects.

- Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
- Proficient in communicating technical information to various stakeholders.
- Clear and articulate when describing technical issues.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Effective communication with project managers and team members.
