A 130+ bed hospital located in South Central VA, near the NC border, is looking for a Director of Womens Health to join their team.
The Nurse Director is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in a single unit or specialized area. He/she provides leadership to the nursing staff members.
Director is responsible for 10.8 FTEs (12 RNs) plus 2 PRN RNs.
Average deliveries are about 245 annually.
Unit consists of 4 GYN rooms; 6 pre, interim, and post-partum rooms; 2 LDRs; and a 2-Bay nursery. Nursery only used for procedures and sick babies.
All staff are trained in each area.
Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) required.
Minimum Work Experience
Two years experience as a charge nurse with demonstrated administrative and supervisory competence required.

Strong clinical skills with ability to react decisively in emergency situations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Verbal and written ability to give information and present ideas essential in administrative management.

Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department.
Ability to discern legal implications in nursing.

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.
Essential Functions
Responsible for collaborating with other departments regarding resources and services for improved patient care.
Performs functions of a registered nurse uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients.
Supervise and coordinate care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in an efficient manner.
Provide excellent customer service.
Conducts interviews, hires new staff, and takes and active role in the orientation of new staff.
Completes reports, projects, and unit goals within specified time-frame and according to pre-established guidelines.
Professionalism applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities and application of nursing research.
Pursues ongoing continuing education to remain current in practice.
Under the general direction of the CNO oversees the operation of the nursing unit.
Demonstrates flexibility in response to new and improved work processes.
Maintains EOC standards by knowing and following procedures in emergency management, hazardous material management, life safety, fire safety, infection control, and security.
Possess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing, planning and assigning nursing care.
Complies with regulatory requirements and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Productivity ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.
Documentation is reflective of care provided to ensure accurate charges are placed.
Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
Prepares budget, manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs.
Education uses the nursing process to meet patient/family needs.
Promotes and provides educational opportunities to staff.
Completes/attends all required in-services and unit staff meetings.
Functions as a role model for clinical practice to co-workers, students, customers, and Medical Staff to help build and maintain a professional environment.
Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient, family, and personnel situations that present in the work area/department.
Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
Competently works with Paragon applications (computer system).
Possess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system and other unit specific equipment.
Consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psych/social/cultural support.
