Job Description

The Role

A Senior Staff Engineer is a technical specialist role and senior member within our SEEK Group Engineering teams. A Senior Staff Engineer is a subdomain subject matter expert whose primary focus is to partner closely with Engineering Managers Heads of Engineering Architecture and Heads of Product to drive the alignment of subdomain strategy to SEEKs overall technical strategy.

Daytoday you will work collaboratively with your team management peers (Engineering Managers) providing technical guidance and specialist knowledge of codebases/systems/tools/platforms across multiple teams in which you work and support the resolution of technical issues and decisions as the need arises.

A Senior Staff Engineer advocates for and empowers technical best practices which support the delivery of software across multiple teams or technology specialisations within a subdomain. You will be accountable for advocating clean scalable testable code ensuring high development practices and standards across your subdomain. Line Management is an optional component of this role.

We are seeking a highly skilled individual contributor with expertise in React.js TypeScript Node.js and AWS architecture. Experience in AI/GenAI is a strong advantage. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of collaborating with senior stakeholders and thriving in an environment with minimal guidance. A handson innovative approach is essential as the role requires someone who is a tech pioneer and trailblazer.

Key Accountabilities

Build:

  • Ensure services systems and platforms within your subdomain are fit for purpose wellarchitected and follow SEEK development practices
  • Drive platform health and technical best practices across Engineering teams
  • Be the technical escalation person within your subdomain supporting production incidents through to resolution

Execute:

  • Strengthen engineering discipline and technology capability across subdomain
  • Partner with technical stakeholders and support the Head of Engineering in capacity planning risk management and prioritisation of technical work
  • Provide technical guidance break through blockers and facilitate technical discussions impacting your subdomain

Support:

  • Grow Staff Engineer technical leadership capabilities through coaching and mentoring
  • Strengthen the technical capabilities of your subdomain by identifying and nurturing engineering talents
  • Support the wellbeing of your subdomain by advocating for a safe inclusive diverse and engaged culture

Strengthen:

  • Contribute to the engineering community at SEEK (e.g. opensource projects mentoring guilds)
  • Develop a profile within the external engineering community
  • Proactively seek out learning opportunities for self and others

Qualifications :

Essential Qualifications Skills and Experience:

  1. Extensive experience in designing developing and maintaining cloudfirst applications and APIs with a focus on wellarchitected systems following SEEK development practices.
  2. Proven ability to lead technical roadmaps implement CI/CD practices and drive platform health across engineering teams.
  3. Strong coding skills with experience in writing welltested secure and readable software using current patterns and tooling.
  4. Demonstrated experience in technical leadership including mentoring coaching and guiding software engineers within and across teams.
  5. Ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders focusing on outcomes that align with overall strategy.
  6. Experience in managing operational support duties including oncall support and afterhours work as required.
  7. Proactive approach to knowledge sharing continuous improvement and participation in internal and external engineering communities.

Desirable Qualifications Skills and Experience:

  1. Experience in defining key technical metrics for service/system/platform health and leading technical transformational change within multiple teams or subdomains.
  2. Previous experience in attracting and recruiting software engineers acting as a brand ambassador for the organisation.
  3. Demonstrated ability to support the professional development and promotion of Software Engineers and Staff Engineers across multiple teams.

At SEEK teams develop products and solutions for internal and external customers across the SEEK Group. Organized into crossfunctional squads within an APAC matrix structure custodial teams focus on specific customer bases like Candidate Hirer AIPS Technology Platforms and Marketplace Services.

  • Engineering: Graduate to Distinguished Engineers Engineering Managers and Heads/Directors of Engineering.
  • Leadership: Executives (technical and nontechnical) and Software Architects.
  • Product & Analysis: Product Managers Data Analysts UX/Visual Designers and Business/Iteration Managers.
  • Collaborate with functions such as Strategy Sales HR AI Security Architecture and APAC Engineering Teams in Hirer Candidate and Platform domains.
