General Summary
Management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery and fostering of interdisciplinary planning and collaborative relationships within area of responsibility and the system as a whole.
Serves as a liaison for the patients families physicians nursing staff ancillary departments and external agencies to coordinate and expedite the care of the patient.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Works in collaboration with the Director to assure that chemotherapy service are staffed with appropriate mix and numbers to meet customer needs.*
- Develops plan of care for all chemotherapy patients especially high risk or complex patients.*
- Identifies patient or environmental urgent/nonurgent situations and actively participates in problem resolution.*
- Supervises secretary and outpatient chemotherapy nurses. *
- Provides input into capital and operational budgets for the chemotherapy site/service. Assists in monitoring and managing budget; analyzes variances and takes appropriate action; develops plan for productivity improvement; monitors daily consumption of supplies; works within budget.*
- Maintains uptodate knowledge of coding and reimbursement for chemotherapy including working with Patient Financial Services to resolve reimbursement issues.*
- Ensures accuracy in the medication process including transport storage security and /or administration of medications to include IV solutions.*
- Facilitates unit(s) level performance improvement activities including data collection.*
- Provides ongoing communication to the team on management issues and goals; communicates with patients and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient staff management and quality care issues.
- Serves as a clinical resource/educator to facilitate the development of licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel in collaboration with the Director and Professional Practice Development.
- Participates in interviewing hiring training and performance evaluation of staff for site/service. Serves as clinical preceptor for new chemotherapy certified nurses throughout Shore Regional Health.
- Ensures consistent application of all hospital rules and regulations. Participates in the development and implementation of nursing care policies practice guidelines procedures and standards.
- Active member on hospital/system/community committees as appropriate; determines with the Director the structure of site/service committees; provides leadership to committees as appropriate.
- Administers chemotherapy treatments including patient assessments documentation and followup.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :
Current RN Licensure. Bachelors preferred (or in progress). Health Care Provider BLS Certification required. Three to five years of clinical experience within the specialty. Understanding of current nursing practice trends; knowledge in the cognitive physical emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development.
The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her agespecific needs and to provide the necessary care as described in the departments policies and procedures
