Job Description

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) is the nations largest municipal housing preservation and development agency. Its mission is to promote quality housing and diverse thriving neighborhoods for New Yorkers through loan and development programs for new affordable housing preservation of the affordability of the existing housing stock enforcement of housing quality standards and educational programs for tenants and building owners. HPD is tasked with fulfilling the Mayors Housing New York: A FiveBorough TenYear Plan to create and preserve 200000 affordable units for New Yorkers at the very lowest incomes to those in the middle class.

Your Team:

The Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion/Equal Employment Opportunity (ODEI/EEO) forwards the mission of HPD to construct and preserve affordable housing by ensuring that all internally and externallyfacing policies programs and procedures are created and executed with an intersectional equity lens that focuses on wellness both for employees and the public we serve. The Office also serves an important compliance role ensuring that antidiscrimination laws are enforced. The Office is transitioning to focus even more on equity and inclusion paying close attention to race gender and disability as intersectional lenses to help uncover barriers to accessing resources and opportunities.

The Office works both internally and externally to ensure that the agency is as responsive as possible to the diverse public we serve through building partnerships with neighborhoods communities and organizations. The Office also acts as a onestop resource with regard to equity and as a liaison for HPD to equity initiatives throughout the city. Finally the Office is committed to educating HPDs workforce about equity and inclusion strategies and equal employment opportunity policies as well as state and local antidiscrimination laws in order to better equip our staff to work together and with the public in an unbiased and professional manner.

Your Role:

The selected candidate will perform as the special Assistant to the Assistant Commissioner of ODEI/EEO. As a special Assistant he/she will be responsible for providing support to ensure efficient operation of the office. He/she will handle and monitor the Assistant Commissioners calendar correspondence and screen telephone calls and/or direct calls to the appropriate parties. The candidate will be responsible for handling and responding to EEO Complaint and Reasonable Accommodation related inquiries. He/she will maintain files work on special projects and other reports as needed by the Assistant Commissioner which are of highly confidential matter. In addition the selected candidate will handle ODEI/EEOs email boxes to ensure responses are submitted in a timely manner as well as entering data into the databases to generate monthly reports. He/she will also assist with EEO Case and Reasonable Accommodation management functions.

Your Impact:

The selected candidate will implement and coordinate administrative systems procedures and policies and monitor administrative projects. The selected candidate will require extensive research abilities and strong communication skills

A keen sense of how to engage effectively in tough conversations.
Ability to independently take on projects with guidance as needed.
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience working independently with minimal oversight

Qualifications :

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 above.
