THE DIVISION
The Bronx is home to more than 1.4 million residents a historic peak and by 2024 is projected to grow by more than 200000 residents a 14% increase making it one of the fastest growing counties in New York State. The Bronx Office has a varied and dynamic work program focused on ensuring the borough has great neighborhoods that include affordable housing vibrant commercial and institutional centers transitoriented development and highquality public realm.

The Bronx Office is responsible for a wide range of planning and urban design activities including developing boroughwide and local plans focused on affordable housing economic development and the public realm; reviewing and managing land use applications subject to the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP); leading community engagement; providing technical and policy guidance on all land use and zoning matters related to the City Planning Commission local community boards and the public at large.

THE ROLE
The agency is seeking to fill the position of Deputy Director of the Bronx Borough Office to assist the Borough Director to manage a dynamic and talented team of planning and urban design professionals across a wide variety of projects and studies track and monitor the offices numerous land use applications and oversee comprehensive planning efforts. With great latitude for exercising independent judgment the Deputy Director will:

Assist the Director in developing and implementing the office work program including the review of land use applications and recommending and formulating planning studies.
In consultation with the Director and Team Leaders develop work programs establish priorities and deadlines and manage work assignments
Monitor and assess the status of land use applications and neighborhood plans to assure adherence to the Offices work program
Assist in assigning land use applications and projects and delegating responsibilities and tasks to office staff as needed
Assist in evaluating staff performance and help provide training guidance information and instruction for staff development
Manage Department initiatives and ULURP and other land use applications and contribute to planning and urban design studies and coordinate this work with other divisions of the Department other City agencies community boards elected officials and the public
Supervise the work of team leaders and other planners in the review of land use applications and implementation of studies and reports for the borough
Provide guidance on ULURP applications planning studies and reports
Represent the Department at meetings of civic business and community groups community boards and public agencies
In the Directors absence perform requisite responsibilities of the Director
Perform other related tasks


Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four (4) years of fulltime experience in city planning at least eighteen (18) months of which must have been in a managerial capacity; or

2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 above. However a baccalaureate degree and eighteen (18) months of managerial experience in city planning is required of all candidates. Graduate work leading to an advance degree in city planning or related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the nonmanagerial experience on a yearforyear basis. Graduation from an accredited United States Law School may be substituted for two (2) years of nonmanagerial
experience.
