The Biotherapeutics Production group at AbbVie is seeking an experienced bispecifics/multispecifics cell line and protein expression scientist to join a fast paced high throughput large scale mammalian expression group. The Biotherapeutics mammalian expression group supports medium to large scale (1 to 100L) expression of bispecific/multispecific biologics in support of AbbVies worldwide drug discovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expression of bispecifics and other novel multispecific biologics formats to support therapeutic area drug discovery projects.
- Transient and stable CHO expression vector design (including complex 3chain and 4chain multispecific molecules)
- Generation of stable CHO cell lines using 2 or more vectors and multiple selection strategies to optimize chain pairing of 3 and 4chain molecules.
- Transient protein expression of 3 and 4chain molecules in CHO cells and process optimization to determine optimal chain ratio.
- Maintenance of stable CHO pools and cell lines including thaw culture expression and cryopreservation.
- Process development and optimization for batch and fedbatch Wave bioreactor and shake flask expressions of transient and stable CHO cell lines expressing multispecifics.
- Purification and biophysical characterization of analytical scale expression samples using analytical HPLC to evaluate titer % monomer and chain pairing efficiency.
- Work independently on the design execution and interpretation of experimental results.
- Analyze document and report data concisely and rigorously.
Qualifications :
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters in biology chemistry biochemistry or related field with typically 57 (BS) or 25 (MS) years of experience.
- Handson experience with cell culture and transient protein expression of bispecifics and multispecifics in CHO cells.
- Prior experience in transient and stable vector design and generation of stable CHO cell lines expressing complex 3 and 4chain multispecific molecules.
- Prior experience with analytical characterization of multispecifics desirable.
- Prior experience in mammalian expression using Wave bioreactors desirable.
- Experience in process development and process optimization.
- Demonstrated proficiency in overcoming problems (i.e. poor chain pairing low expression aggregation glycosylation) with challenging therapeutic multispecific proteins desirable.
Position will be filled at level commensurate with extent of education experience and accomplishment Scientist I or Scientist II.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our shortterm incentive programs.
