Job Description

Union: CUPE TW  Service (3 Positions)
Site: Toronto Western Hospital 
Department: Operating Room
Reports to: Patient Care Manager
Work Model: OnSite
Grade: U0:55
Wage range: $28.17 $29.04 per hour. (Start rate determined in accordance with collective agreement requirements)
Hours: Variable as required
Status: Casual 
Shifts: Variable as required
Closing Date: February 6 2025

Position Summary

The Operating Room at TWH has 17 OR Suites and 2 Block Rooms for Regional Anesthesia. The OR has the unique ability to provide technologically advanced investigations and treatment in image guided brain and spinal surgery. Many opportunities for additional education throughout the year including the Krembil Nursing Awards.

The majority of patients require the following types of practice:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Spine Surgery
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Hand and Plastic Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Urology Surgery
  • Ophthalmology Surgery

Duties

  • Performing transportation functions including movement of patients equipment and supplies
  • Stocking supplies;
  • Ensuring necessary inventories are maintained patient holding area and other designated areas; performing patient focused care and patient assistance functions;
  • Preparing areas for surgery by providing responsive teamoriented environmental support/maintenance services for the physical surroundings and equipment within
  • Performing other indirect patient related duties
  • Working in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations reporting hazards deficiencies and contraventions of the Act in a timely manner; performing crossfunctional duties as assigned and/or required
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications :

  • Completion of Grade Xll or recognized equivalent.
  • One (1) year recent experience in a related patient care capacity.
  • Ability to speak read write and comprehend the English language.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.).
  • Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies procedures guidelines protocols and practices.
  • Knowledge of procedures for handling contaminated materials.
  • Ability to setup and maintain the equipment tools and instruments common to the Surgical Services environment within scope of responsibility.
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively as an active participant with others in assisting with the delivery of the care to surgical patients.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities in a courteous manner.
  • Standard First Aid/ Basic Rescuer CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certification an asset.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job required including: ability to stand stoop walk bend lift push pull and reach without any physical discomfort on a continuous basis; transferring patients with appropriate assistance; ability to stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift in excess of 40 kg.
