POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant School Leader (ASL) is a critical member of the school leadership team and is responsible for driving both academic and character outcomes for students. The ASL will go above and beyond in order to lead instruction and school culture that maximizes learning and life outcomes for students. At KIPP Indy our goal is to ensure that Assistant School Leaders receive intense coaching and support while developing skills in every area that it takes to lead a school.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Model and support the implementation of the schools vision goals and strategy
- Supports the development of the School Leaders schoolwide vision and takes an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school; owns the implementation of select school priorities in support of the schoolwide vision
- Collaborates with the School Leader to lead the planning and goal setting for the grades/departments that he/she coaches and ensures alignment with schoolwide priorities and goals
- Collaborates with the school leadership team to provide input on annual strategic planning
Model strong staff and student culture and manages a specific grade level or grade levels on setting and managing its student culture and character development initiatives
- Supports teachers in understanding processes and roles in student support and intervention and develops systems and structures to ensure that limited time is spent on reactive student discipline
- Partners with the student support team to serve as a primary point of contact on student intervention and parent communication; determines next steps for issues that rise above the teacher/grade level and executes necessary followup actions aligned to decisions
- Supports daily school operations (e.g. arrival dismissal lunch intervention)
- Disseminates logistical communications to grade level team in conjunction with the Grade Level Chair
Build teachers instructional knowledge of standards content and instructional methods
- Develops a strong understanding of academic standards for all subjects/grades for which he/she coaches; understands the implications of standards on what a student should know and be able to do
- Studies curriculum and assessment content and further develop an understanding of how assessments map to content mastery and what is required of students and teachers to accomplish mastery of the assessments
- Develops own and teachers knowledge of best practices in instructional methods and teaches teachers how to match particular strategies to gaps in student mastery
Develop teachers to provide rigorous and highquality instruction and support School Leader in planning and implementing enabling systems for student achievement
- Provides highquality instructional coaching with curriculum and planning support frequent and scheduled teacher observations actionable and bitesized feedback and accountability for adjustment in practice
- Collaborates with the School Leader on what schoolwide professional development will be the highest leverage in improving student results; leads engaging and actionable content team meetings that elevate the instructional practice and holds staff accountable for the implementation of content team learning
- Supports teachers in how to assess student mastery and growth toward college readiness and insists that assessments are used to inform teacher instruction
- Collaborates with teachers and leaders to monitor progress toward academic goals and to identify specific instructional strengths and adjustments needed to reach defined goals and school priorities
Collaborate with the School Leader to recruit select and develop teachers teacher leaders and emerging leaders
- Supports the School Leader in recruiting and hiring diverse highly effective teachers and school staff
- Collaborates with the School Leader to identify and develop emerging leaders
- Develops teacher leaders through goal setting observations and coaching by utilizing KIPPs leadership competency model and performance management scope and sequence
- Evaluates staff on instructional proficiency and effectiveness using the schools instructional rubric.

- Attend and participate in all campus leadership team meetings and instructional leadership team meetings
- Attend and participate in family engagement events student experiences and enrollment activities as needed

- Pass a criminal background check as required by law

Qualifications :
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree (Masters degree preferred)
- At least four years working in an urban school setting (preferred)
- Experience teaching in an urban school setting
- Achieved exceptional results in their own classroom
- Content knowledge in ELA or math (preferred)
- Experience in a leadership role or having leadership responsibilities in an urban school setting
- Experience coaching or managing others (preferred)
Additional Information :
The salary for this position is $80000
Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a highly competitive benefits package. Opportunities for performancebased bonuses are also available.
