The Green Finance Program
The Green Finance Program seeks to unlock and scale green finance by bridging the gap between supply and demand through longterm partnerships and knowledge enhancement. The program supports various sectors within the green economy including renewable energy water & wastewater agriculture and the circular economy.
Program Objectives:
- Advance knowledge and networks in the green finance sector.
- Direct industry support to lowcarbon projects and companies developing an investmentready pipeline.
- Develop innovative financing mechanisms contextualized for South Africa.
- Bridge the gap between finance demand and supply in the green economy.
Role Overview
The organisation is inviting applications for Senior/Expert Analyst: Green Finance. This role will focus on providing technical and financial expertise helping accelerate investments and finance in the green economy. The position will particularly emphasize green infrastructure projects in the public sector focusing on climate change adaptation and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Expertise:
- Conduct financial modeling business case development and feasibility studies.
- Build rapport with funders and stakeholders including government and financial institutions.
- Develop and apply impact indicators (e.g. SDGs ESG frameworks).
- Project Management:
- Lead or support strategic decisionmaking within the Green Finance Program.
- Manage projects deliverables and reporting requirements.
- Oversee feasibility studies and other technical evaluations for green infrastructure projects.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships across the green economy value chain.
- Provide objective market insights and promote investment opportunities.
- Represent the organisation in industry events forums and stakeholder meetings.
- Innovation in Financing:
- Design and implement innovative financing mechanisms.
- Match projects with suitable funding sources.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Postgraduate degree (Masters preferred) in Finance Economics Development Finance Business Management or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in financial modeling commercial due diligence and project finance (infrastructure experience is advantageous).
- Networks: Strong existing connections within finance infrastructure or green economy sectors.
- Competencies:
- Advanced project management skills.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) including public speaking.
- Ability to foster and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
- Analytical thinking and problemsolving abilities.
- Independent proactive and detailoriented.
Additional Advantages:
- Fluency in Afrikaans isiXhosa or isiZulu (in addition to English).
- Proven track record in securing funding.
- Knowledge of climate change adaptation/resilience and impact metrics.
- Existing network in the energy or green economy sectors.
Contract Terms
- Location: Cape Town CBD with potential travel across South Africa.
- Term: 12month contract with the possibility of renewal based on performance.
- Remuneration: Marketrelated inclusive of a medical aid contribution.
