Job Description
AECOM Buildings Places is seeking an Electrical Engineer to be based out of our Canadian company headquarters in Markham ON. The job incumbent will be a part of our Buildings and Places Team a vibrant and growing business line which delivers Engineering architectural and project management services as well as planning and economic analysis for vertical construction projects. Project assignments may include although not limited to commercial institutional healthcare pharmaceutical water / waste water and transit facilities.
Major Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Developing various types of reports including schematic design design development building assessment and design build/assist scope of work documents
- Preparing electrical drawings and specification
- Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting power fire alarm and specialty low voltage systems roughins (i.e. telecomm. intrusion control security CCTV door access controls etc.)
- Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project
- Conduct necessary research to gather industry field and project specific data
- Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards;
- Working with prime consultants engineering consultants and contractors; responding to technical queries
- Construction administration responsibilities:
- Attending site meetings and site reviews complete with reports
- Shop drawing reviews
- SI and CCN preparations.
- Contractors change quotation reviews
- Progress billing reviews
- Fire alarm verification report reviews
- Able to work to tight schedules control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same
- Sound judgment supported by excellent technical analytical and problemsolving skills
- Well organized selfdirected work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements:
At a very minimum candidates must possess the following in order to be considered:
- A Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering no less than 4 (four) years of experience doing electrical design on buildings projects.
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:
- 10 years of experience in the engineering consulting industry in a building engineering group
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
- Familiarity with OESCOBC IEEE NFPA and other industry standards and codes
- Experience in leading electrical designers and drafters
- Experience in designing electrical power and lighting systems
- Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP
- Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations spreadsheets and report writing
- Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within a department
- Analytical technical and problemsolving skills and abilities
- Ability to communicate coordinate and work well with others both internally and externally
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality
- Selfmotivated and proactive
- Analytical resourceful and detailed oriented
- A good team player and decision maker.
- Valid drivers license
- Prefer an individual with electrical design experience on transportationrelated buildings and facilities such as subway stations.
- Experience with Electrical load calculations lighting design and analysis a plus
- Additional certifications such as LEED LC CEM RCDD etc. are a bonus
- Communications system design experience is a plus
- Experience with IES energy modeling tool is desirable
- Some Project Management experience and training desired
