Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Accountable for the risk management performance of assigned commissions.
  • Designs effective risk management frameworks on assigned commissions.
  • Manages and directs clients, consultants, contractors, project team on assigned commissions on all risk management matters.
  • Partners with client meeting their expectations and building strong professional relationships.
  • Provides expert advice and support to project teams in the administration of the risk process, particularly with respect to the risks to achievement of key project objectives and escalation of risks.
  • Facilitates and drives the delivery of risk workshops.
  • Works with project managers to recognise opportunities and mitigations to minimise risk exposure.
  • Accountable for ensuring risk mitigation action plans are developed, risk and action owners appointed and that project plans are updated accordingly and monitored.
  • Leads and directs the delivery of project quantitative risk analysis (cost and time).
  • Comments on the adequacy of contingency as part of the regular reporting cycle as required.
  • Develops and delivers monthly risk reports, externally to the client and internally to the project team.
  • Ensures all activities are carried out in line with Mace control centre, client requirements and prevailing legislation.
  • Provides line management to team and other project members.
  • Utilises expertise to mentor and assist the personal and career development of junior members of risk team.
  • Leads the integration of risk with PMO and planning disciplines.
  • Supports the hub risk lead with resourcing and recruitment for the assigned commission.
  • Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

You’ll Need To Have

  • Relevant degree qualification.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • A hunger for learning and ambition to grow.
  • Knowledge of risk tools, techniques and software’s’ i.e., active risk manager, riskHive, @risk, Primavera risk analyser, P6.
  • Professional membership or working towards demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.

Desired candidate profile

  • Risk Management Expertise: Deep knowledge of risk management methodologies, frameworks (such as ISO 31000), and industry best practices for assessing, mitigating, and managing risks.
  • Risk Assessment: Proficiency in identifying and assessing potential risks (e.g., financial, operational, strategic, environmental) to projects, businesses, or organizations.
  • Risk Mitigation Strategies: Experience in developing and implementing strategies to mitigate identified risks and minimize their potential impact on business objectives.
  • Quantitative & Qualitative Risk Analysis: Strong ability to perform both qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including the use of tools like Monte Carlo simulations, decision trees, FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), and fault tree analysis.
  • Project and Portfolio Risk Management: Experience in managing risk across large portfolios or multi-phase projects, providing advice and ensuring that risks are appropriately addressed at all levels of the organization.
  • Crisis Management: Ability to respond quickly and decisively to crises, ensuring that risks do not lead to significant disruptions or negative consequences.
  • Financial Risk Management: Strong understanding of financial risks, including budgeting, forecasting, and market volatility, and experience in developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and compliance issues related to risk management.
  • Risk Reporting and Documentation: Ability to document, communicate, and present risk findings and mitigation plans clearly to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Internal Controls and Audits: Experience with establishing and monitoring internal controls to identify and prevent potential risks before they occur.
  • Risk Governance: Understanding of governance frameworks, helping implement risk management structures, policies, and procedures that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate risks and mitigation plans effectively to internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, clients, regulators, and contractors.
  • Change Management: Ability to assess risks during periods of change (e.g., mergers, acquisitions, new business ventures) and help manage those transitions effectively.
  • Technology and Software: Familiarity with risk management software tools and project management systems such as Primavera P6, MS Project, RiskWatch, @RISK, and other enterprise risk management tools.
