SUMMARY
The CNC technician sets up and operates CNC controlled generators polishers and/or subaperture processing machines (MRF or aspheric systems). A technician may run one or several machines concurrently depending on job complexity production schedules or personnel available. The machine parameters are entered into the control system by the technician per documented work instructions. The technician loads and runs the workpiece periodically checks progress of work and makes appropriate parameter or mechanical adjustments to achieve acceptable results.
Technician uses precision gauges test glasses and laser interferometer to ensure that finished parts conform to specifications. Technician must have good close vision for evaluation of cosmetic defects. This job is moderately technical and requires attention to detail.
Advanced Processing CNC Technician I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee.
QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•Regular and punctual attendance is required
•Overtime hours may be required if needed
•General understanding of the flow of parts
•Bar coding to record flow of parts
•Set up and shut down of CNC machines for each job
•Work under moderate supervision
•Understanding and use of work instructions
•Adjust machines to produce parts according to specifications
•Use test equipment such as micrometers dial indicators and calipers
•Set up and operate interferometers
•Proper cleaning of equipment daily
•Other responsibilities may include: Routine maintenance of machine premixing polishing compounds; and preparation and maintenance of polishing tools and beveling of parts.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic computer skills are beneficial.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to understand speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. An UVA light source is also used in this area. When using this light source UV eye protection and gloves may be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
