Job Description

APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE SUPERVISOR I SOCIAL WORK CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OR IF YOU ARE HIRED PROVISIONALLY AS A SUPERVISOR I SOCIAL WORK YOU MUST TAKE AND PASS THE SUPERVISOR I SOCIAL WORK CIVIL SERVICE EXAM WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT.

Domestic Violence Services (DVS) is a program within the Human Resources Administration (HRA) which provides a variety of comprehensive immediate and longterm support services to survivors of domestic violence and their families. DVS provides oversight for the largest domestic violence shelter system in the country which provides safety and services for this vulnerable population. This network of more than 54 emergency domestic violence shelters provides temporary emergency housing and support services to over 17500 victims of domestic violence annually. DVS also provides oversight and funding for the 24hour safe hotline. In addition DVS administers the No Violence Again program NoVA the Domestic Violence Liaison Unit which provides counseling and intervention at the Benefits Access Centers (BAC) a Housing Unit and a Support Services Team. DVS partners with sister agencies stakeholders and a network of communitybased organizations that provide counseling legal services financial development services and job readiness for survivors and their families.

DVS is recruiting for one (2) Supervisors I SW to function as NoVA Supervisors.

This position is in the NoVA Unit which provides counseling and referrals to domestic violence shelters information about benefits and a wide range of other services including legal intervention. The project was created to address the special needs of victims of domestic violence who are apply for assistance from or who reside in the Department of Homeless Services shelter system.

Supervise Social Workers out stationed in DHS facilities as well as PATH that provide counseling and referrals to domestic violence shelters information about entitlements and a wide range of other services.

Provide regularly scheduled as well as extemporaneous clinical supervision to Social Work staff on each of their assigned cases.

Handle emergencies or special problems either by providing guidance or by assuming responsibility for the case.

Assign cases and regularly monitors the maintenance of current clear and complete case records.

Review completed Screening/Assessments for correctness.

Maintain internal administrative controls for tracking and expediting as needed the actions taken and the forms submitted on each referral.

Collaborate with the Director on the planning and provision of staff training; instructs new staff under direct supervision on policies and
procedures.

Prepare annual staff evaluations.

Salary Range: $63980 $73577

Qualifications :

1. A Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience practicing social work utilizing one or a combination of casework group work and community organization methodologies.

2. Certification and License Requirement: A valid Certified Social Worker (CSW) certificate or Licensed Master of Social Work license (LMSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education must be obtained within one year of the date of appointment. Employees who fail to obtain their CSW or LMSW within one year after appointment will automatically have their probationary periods extended for no more than six months. Failure to obtain the CSW or LMSW by the end of 18 months of service will result in dismissal.

3. Special Note: Section 424a of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with childcare responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report. The agency has the discretion to assign a candidate who has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report to a position with no childcare responsibilities.
