Job Description

Note: This position is open to City of New York employees serving in the permanent civil service title of Computer Systems Manager or permanent in a comparable civil service title.

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the worlds busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Departments main goal is to provide fire protection emergency medical care and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire life safety and disaster preparedness along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865 FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Departments core values.

Fire Department is seeking a Deputy Chief Information office reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) this position will lead the daytoday operation of enterprisewide IT services and endtoend network infrastructure for the FDNY ensuring 24x7x365 access to mission critical operations relying on technology infrastructure and support. The selected candidate will serve as Deputy CIO for IT Operations IT Budget and Administration Security & Surveillance systems and Plant Operations directly responsible for: Capital and Expense funding administrative oversight functions desktop and Mobility Operations Server and Systems Management Network Services which includes Network Engineering OSP Fiber Optic and copper installation and support Datacenter infrastructure and Operations fire alarm box maintenance and support and executive oversight of the Fire Departments SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) surveillance and access control and BMS systems enterprise.

Special Working Conditions: May be required to work shifts including nights Saturdays Sundays and holidays.


Qualifications :

1. A masters degree in computer science from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of progressively more responsible fulltime satisfactory experience in Information Technology (IT) including applications development systems development data communications and networking database administration data processing or user services. At least eighteen (18) months of this experience must have been in an administrative managerial or executive capacity in the areas of applications development systems development data communications and networking database administration data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of progressively more responsible fulltime satisfactory experience as described in 1 above; or

3. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six (6) years of progressively more responsible fulltime satisfactory experience as described in 1 above; or

4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above. However all candidates must have at least a fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and must possess at least three (3) years of experience as described in 1 above including the eighteen (18) months of administrative managerial executive or supervisory experience as described in 1 above.

In the absence of a baccalaureate degree undergraduate credits may be substituted for a maximum of two (2) years of the required experience in IT on the basis of 30 semester credits for six (6) months of the required experience. Graduate credits in computer science may be substituted for a maximum of one (1) year of the required experience in IT on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits in computer science for one (1) year of the required IT experience. However undergraduate and/or graduate credits may not be substituted for the eighteen (18) months of experience in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity as described in 1 above.
