Job Description
Position Overview:
KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers work closely both as a team and with General Education Teachers to plan targeted highleverage interventions for their students. Our Special Education Teachers seek first to diagnose student challenges and then to design individual programs and differentiated strategies to meet specific needs. The team serves students with IEPs and diagnosed disabilities as well as with students who are identified as atrisk.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Teaching a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that combines the schools standards and the New York State standards
- Teaching students in a highquality exciting way
- Using data to drive decisions
- Committing to constant professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachers
- Constantly assessing student progress and communicating results to families and colleagues
- Providing individual or small group instruction for students who need additional assistance
- Modeling a whatever it takes spirit to ensure that each student is successful
- Modeling the schools values in all communications with students families and staff
Qualifications :
- Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest grit hope love social intelligence gratitude and a sense of humor.
- At least two years of teaching experience is strongly preferred
- New York State Special Education teacher certification is highly recommended
- Bachelors degree required
- A passion for being part of a teamoriented missiondriven school culture
- A strong desire to become a better teacher by joining the KIPP NYC team and family
- Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students within our KIPP NYC communities

Compensation and Benefits:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70829 $142270 per year. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role NYS initial or professional certification and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP NYC will evaluate a candidates years of experience certification and longevity at point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale.

This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY your employment will be subject to review which may include separation from KIPP NYC.
