Overview
The Cardiac Cath Rad Tech plays a vital role in the healthcare setting providing critical support to cardiologists during catheterization procedures. This position is essential in ensuring that diagnostic and interventional procedures are carried out effectively while prioritizing patient safety and care. The Cardiac Cath Rad Tech is responsible for operating imaging equipment preparing patients for examinations and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Their expertise not only impacts the quality of patient care but also contributes to the overall efficiency of the cardiac catheterization lab. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and position patients for cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Operate and maintain imaging equipment including fluoroscopy units and digital cameras.
- Assist the cardiologist during catheterization and other interventional procedures.
- Monitor patient vital signs and comfort levels during procedures.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols to protect patients and staff.
- Administer contrast media and medications as directed by the physician.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient records and procedures.
- Assist in the training and onboarding of new staff members.
- Perform routine quality control checks on imaging equipment.
- Collaborate with nurses and other techs to ensure procedural efficiency.
- Educate patients about the procedures and address any concerns they may have.
- Participate in continuous education to remain updated on advancements in cardiology and imaging technology.
- Respond to emergencies in the cardiac catheterization lab effectively.
- Analyze images for diagnostic purposes and provide support to the cardiology team.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the lab.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Radiologic Technology or related field.
- Current certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
- State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in cardiac catheterization or related clinical setting.
- Certification in cardiac catheterization technology is preferred.
- Proficient in the use of imaging equipment and technology.
- Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology especially cardiovascular systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures associated with cardiology.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fastpaced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with patients and team members.
- Commitment to patient safety and quality care.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is required; ACLS certification preferred.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation practices.
- Willingness to participate in continuing education and professional development.
