Job Overview:
We are seeking a meticulous and analytical Health Insurance Underwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating insurance applications to determine the risk involved and to establish appropriate premium rates for health insurance policies. The role requires a keen understanding of underwriting principles healthcare regulations and risk assessment methodologies. Responsibilities:
- Assess insurance applications for health insurance policies evaluating prepolicy medical checkup lab & radiology reports medical history age occupation and lifestyle habits.
- Serve as the main point of contact for regional underwriting teams providing support and assistance as needed.
- Analyse risk factors and determine the appropriate level of coverage and premium rates for applicants.
- Utilize underwriting guidelines and industry regulations to make informed decisions regarding policy acceptance modification or rejection.
- Collaborate with other departments such as claims sales Operations IT and marketing to ensure alignment of underwriting policies with organizational objectives.
- Stay updated on industry trends regulatory changes and emerging risks in the healthcare landscape to inform underwriting decisions.
- Review and analyse statistical data claims experience and actuarial reports to assess the financial implications of underwriting decisions.
- Communicate underwriting decisions effectively to stakeholders providing rationale and guidance as needed.
- Provide support guidance & training whenever required to doctors and nurses in clinics regarding product and underwriting process.
- Maintain accurate records of underwriting activities and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing underwriting processes efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements:
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognised university.
- Proven experience (3 years or more) in health insurance underwriting preferably in a similar role within the insurance industry.
- Strong medical & analytical skills with the ability to interpret medical data and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Indepth knowledge of health insurance principles underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Detailoriented approach with a commitment to accuracy and quality in underwriting processes.
- Proficiency in using underwriting software and other relevant tools to streamline processes and enhance productivity.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fastpaced environment.
- Strong ethical values with a commitment to fairness and integrity in underwriting practices.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently while adhering to established guidelines and policies.
