Job Description
Overview
- The Director of MLS Program (Medical Laboratory Science) plays a critical role in the education and training of future medical laboratory scientists.
- This position oversees the curriculum ensuring that it meets accreditation standards and the evolving needs of the healthcare industry.
- The Director is responsible for fostering an inclusive and collaborative learning environment while mentoring faculty and staff involved in the Medical Laboratory Science program.
- This role also involves liaising with clinical partners and regulatory bodies to promote the program and enhance student learning experiences.
- By leading program assessment and evaluation the Director aims to provide the highest quality education ensuring students are wellprepared to meet the challenges of this vital field in healthcare.
- The Director plays an essential part in continuous improvement initiatives and sets the academic agenda for program growth and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the educational curriculum for the MLS program.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Lead faculty recruitment training and evaluation processes.
- Foster collaboration between faculty and student body.
- Serve as a liaison with clinical partners for clinical placements.
- Conduct program reviews and assessments for continuous improvement.
- Manage budgetary considerations for the MLS program.
- Utilize data analysis and feedback to enhance educational outcomes.
- Advise students on academic and careerrelated matters.
- Promote the program through outreach and recruitment efforts.
- Develop strategic plans to meet longterm program objectives.
- Coordinate with other academic departments for interdisciplinary education.
- Engage in scholarly activities and professional development initiatives.
- Advocate for resources and support for the MLS program.
- Prepare reports and presentations for administrative review.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years teaching experience.
- Master s or Doctoral degree.
- Bachelor s degree from a U.S. accredited college or university with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science Medical Technology or a chemical physical or biological science is required.
- ASCPBOC or ASCPi BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or nationally recognized certification/licensure for international or nonUS programs.
- Current Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners Clinical Laboratory Scientist License is required.
- Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
- BLS within 30 days of employment is required.
- Completion of a NAACLS approved school of Medical Technology is preferred.
