Salary range: The salary range for this position is CAD $65.54 $94.22 / hour
Director Clinical Operations (Community & Hospital)
Join our collegialspirited senior leadership team at Burnaby Hospital as we build for the future of health care in Burnaby. This Director Clinical Operations acute care portfolio will encompass Perioperative Services which includes the Operating Room (OR) Surgical Day Care Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) PreAdmission Surgery Clinic OR Booking and Central OR Intake. This Director will play a vital role in the Phase 1 Redevelopment for the OR within the Jim Pattison Surgery Centre leading clinical teams that will be developing the facility activation phase for occupying six new ORs in 2025. This Director will also play a crucial part in the OR renewal project which will result in 10 ORs 4 procedure rooms and 41 pre/postoperative bays within a 2028 timeframe. The Director will work collaboratively with staff and medical staff including the Local Department Heads of Anaesthesia Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology to support increased access to high quality surgical care for Burnaby Hospital s patients.
The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multiphase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus.
Hospital plays an essential role to those living in the community by delivering a variety health care services. Services and specialties include emergency medicine intermediatelevel critical care medical imaging internal medicine hospitalist medicine geriatric medicine neurology gastroenterology palliative psychiatry numerous outpatient clinics; including oncology and an extensive surgery program with anesthesia orthopedics general surgery ENT ophthalmology obstetrics and gynecology urology and plastics specialties.

Detailed Overview:
The Director Clinical Operations provides leadership and direction on strategies planning design implementation delivery and assessment of assigned clinical department/service within or across a hospital or health services area.
Oversees programs/departments/services to support operational leaders remove barriers to patient transition and foster a culture of patientcentred care across the health care continuum. Partners with physician clinical and support leaders in the system design implementation and sustainability of an integrated clinical program to achieve our priority actions supporting the Strategic Operating Priorities.
Works within a network of Regional Programs centralized services hospital sites and community health service areas.
Responsibilities:
- Leads strategic/operational planning integration implementation and delivery of a program/department/service.
- Collaborates to communicate program/department/service needs and outcomes.
- Ensures program/department/ service operate within approved financial mandate. Reviews and endorses budgets and financial plans developed by Managers.
- Oversees development of policies supports for integration and standardization of health programs/services capacity and ensuring a systems perspective.
- Ensures standardization of practice quality safety and cost effectiveness support creating integrated patient/client/residentcentered care.
- Represents the program/department/service in the health service community civic/provincial governments or others.
- Ensures performance management criteria form the basis of metrics for program and individual performance plans.
- Provides leadership to support engagement and respect through support of the wellbeing and safety of our people through effective feedback retention strategies work practices that support work/life balance and the encouragement of personal and professional development.
- Liaises with Foundation Heads enhancing synergy with Foundation and our strategic and operational priorities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
A Masters level of education in a field related to health care management; supplemented with seven (7) to ten (10) years recent related progressively responsible leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Professional/Technical Capabilities:
- Demonstrated leadership in roles to lead and move forward complex organizational change issues across health service needs which support broad transformational objectives.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities to incorporate department/site needs within the broader context of the health delivery system and multiple site/service requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work and lead within a matrix reporting structure.
- Sound working knowledge of planning concepts related to service delivery budgetary staffing quality and strategic initiatives.
- Proven presentation skills within a senior leadership capacity.
- Proven proficiency of leading practice in the field of healthcare leadership.
